Quick work question: do you know this word?

I'm helping someone put together a presentation to the public, and the person has a degree in gerontology. If you were sitting in the audience and someone said they had a degree in gerontology, would you know what this means? I'm debating if I should suggest having them explain it.

It's the study of the migratory patterns of several species of penguin. Penguin or Emu, I guess I get those mixed up sometimes.

Nope, had to Google it. My guess was pretty close though, just going by the medical specialty with a similar sounding name.

I'd have them explain the word, though, because there will be enough people in the audience who won't know what it means, unless it's a convention of gerontologists.
