*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I'm not planning on changing anything about it at this point because it's not even a big deal. I made the switch about 2 weeks ago and it's only happened twice, lasting for about 15 minutes each time. I'm just curious what's causing it..

Cereal is about the worst thing I can eat. Between the dairy and the grains I would be a bloaty, zitty mess. I go with fruit and coffee when I'm in a hurry. Eggs and meat if I have more time.

Thank you. I'm glad that came from someone that does not grow corn.

Fact is that it's easier to cook with. And decades of $2 corn made supply not a problem, so it made it's way into mainstream food production.

It's sugar.

The volume per spoonful of Fruity Pebbles is second to none as well. The structural integrity of some of the round cereals can disintegrate from bowl to mouth. Nothing worse than a spoonful of Reese's Puffs only to get 4 in your mouth and 5 on your shirt.

Oatmeal is OK. If you're asking about cereal made from oats, I stay away. Even if I found a cereal that didn't bother me, I don't do well with milk so it's pretty pointless.

This is interesting for my fellow fasters. Silock, thoughts?

A new study finds that men who skip breakfast have a 27 percent greater risk of dying from cardiovascular disease than guys who regularly eat a morning meal. Surprisingly, this was the case even after accounting for other risk factors such as smoking, lack of exercise, high stress, and poor diet. "Constantly going in and out of starvation puts the body through major stress," says study co-author Eric Rimm. That daily stress, in turn, can spell trouble for your heart. "Over time, prolonged fasting can lead to insulin resistance, high cholesterol, and blood pressure problems, which can then trigger heart disease," says lead author Leah Cahill. But skipping a meal won't always do you harm. Intermittent fasting – for 12 hours at a time about every week – has been shown to increase energy, help burn fat, and even build muscle without adverse consequences. That is only the case if you don't end your fast with refined carbs or extra calories later in the day. "Glucose and triglyceride levels shoot up when you don't spread food out over the day and you try to jam it all in at once," says Rimm. The bottom line: Eat a healthy breakfast on most days, and if you're fasting, be sure to follow up with nutritious, low-calorie meals afterward. "There's a good chance that first bite of food will lead you to eat fewer calories for the other two meals."

They don't define prolonged fasting and skipping breakfast hardly sends someone into "starvation." They try to say 12 hour fasting is fine, but they don't conclusively say that 24 hour fasting is bad. I don't know... just seems like a weird study.

My breakfast consists of a cup of oatmeal, a small handfull of raisins, a little ground cinnamon, and about a tablespoon full of crushed walnuts. It's the omega 3 cereal blast!
Then I eat an apple about 10:00, and I'm good till lunch.

I hope you're active during the day. That sounds good (except it's not much protein). I'm not active enough to eat that many carbs that early in the day, though.
