Least Deserving Hall of Famers: Oakland Raiders

VOTE FOR THREE.

With all of the talk about undeserving people in the Hall of Fame, I thought it might be interesting to identify the absolute least deserving people in the Hall of Fame.

I'll do this first for players, identifying the least deserving players by team, and then we'll do a heat or two for non-players.

Poll coming in less time than it takes for Ben Davidson to deliver a cheap shot.

You can read profiles of the players here, in a very unfriendly format on the HoF site: https://www.profootballhof.com/heroe...me/franchises/

Rules note: If a team has less than 10 HoFers, I'll combine them with another team to get to that number.

My take:

1. Dave Casper. This one is a total mystery to me. I watched the Chiefs-Raiders games for years and this guy was a JAG. He was probably the 17th best tight end in the league during his playing years.

2. Howie Long. It's called the Hall of Fame, not the Hall of Cheating and Cheap Shots. This piece of garbage impugns the reputation of the whole institution. Plus, he doesn't even have deserving stats. He's a guy who got in because he's in the media.

3. Ken Stabler. He's Steve Deberg in a different uniform and with less character. Decent player, not a hall of famer.

Ted Hendricks is a weird pick who shouldn't be in. But he's not the worst on this list.

Tim Brown is in the Hall of Pretty Good, but he's not the worst on this list.

Fred Biletnikoff is far less deserving than Otis Taylor. Maybe he should be in during a lean nomination year, but long after Otis Taylor.

Otto, Shell, Upshaw, Willie Brown, Guy, and Marcus Allen are deserving, though Guy is less deserving than Jerrell Wilson.

Overall, this list makes me angry. They're wasting Canton real estate that should go to more deserving players.

Agree on all points except Tim Brown. When you go 9 seasons of over 1000 yards, and almost 10, I feel like that's HOF worthy. Not to mention, he didn't have great QB play during most of his tenure until Gannon got there.

Serious question for the old-timers. What's the big deal about Dave Casper? Looking at the stats, he was a backup for two seasons, and then a pro bowler for fives seasons (four of them admittedly all-pro), and then sputtered for another three seasons. He only had one season where he made 16 starts. I watched games in high school and college while he was active, and he never wowed me at all.

He reminds me of Russ Francis of the Patriots. I'd hear all of these things about how great Russ Francis was, and then I'd never see him do anything on the field. I don't get it.

My father's favorite Raider was Dave Casper. Also his favorite Fighting Irish player.

He also had the famous Ghost to the Post catch. I think he made the HOF because he had those four All-Pro years. That is a solid stretch during a dynasty and as you and I have noticed during this exercise, the HOF rewards dynasties.

I went with Casper, Stabler, and Long. I don't remember anything special about Casper, Stabler is there for the 1974 season and MVP of the SB, and Long due to his media presence. I would agree that Otto, Upshaw, Shell, and Willie Brown were solid. Marcus was a one-of-a-kind RB and we were lucky enough to have him in KC. Speaking of which, I wonder if he hadn't come here, would he have made the cut? I also agree that Guy should probably be in the Hall, but he probably got in before Wilson for longevity reasons.

The only person on that list who deserves the HOF is Marcus, and he's not a Raider; he's a Chief forever.
