Do you consider yourself to be an alpha?

Serious question, absolutely no judgment. I'm just curious.

I see a lot of folks toss around the "you beta cuck" insult and then I notice the poster will have 80k posts and I find that hard to reconcile. This is absolutely not a slam on people that have a lot of posts, everybody spends their free time differently and how you do that is your business. That being said, if you spend that much time online, you're probably not an alpha.

So what say you CP? Are you an alpha? Does being an alpha on a message board make you an alpha in real life? Can you be an alpha and spend that much time online?

It's not something I really ever think about, but now that you say it...

...in some situations yes, in some situations no. At work it's about 50/50 depending on who I'm working with. When I play soccer or when I'm at the gym, yes. When I'm out in general public, I guess yes (for example, I have no problem grabbing someone's shopping cart and moving it when it's in the way, etc). I'm not an ass about things though and I'd rather resolve things peacefully, but I'm not a pushover.

I think it's something that is really better determined by an independent 3rd party observer. Everyone is going to vote themselves as yes, so this poll is pointless.

Now I don't give a shit. Now I just do what makes me happy (as long as I'm not hurting anyone else) without regard to what other people think.

To me, that's actually kind of beta-ish because it's fake alpha overcompensation.

Yeah, I definitely don’t mean that. Definitions and connotations are probably going to be a problem here. By alpha, I generally mean the more traditional leader of men personality. Like an alpha dog, hence where the name comes from I’ve always assumed. An alpha is generally somebody that takes charge, blazes their own trail, and others follow.

Your comment about doing your own thing is definitely an alpha trait.

No, but the question implies that there's something inherently preferable to being an "alpha." I'm quite content to be a fairly calm, intellectual guy and have found my outlook on life to work just fine for me.

Without a doubt. Although I sure wish I wasn’t. But, as the guy above said, not at the Jon Cena level. I can curtail it most of the time at work. Everyone at what I do at work is an alpha. Egos get out of hand sometimes.

I'm a zeta or something. I'm definitely not an alpha. I like leading projects, not people.

Maybe because I'm big, but I feel immediately uncomfortable in the lead if walking with a group. I want to be in the back. I always kind of felt like that's a test if you feel comfortable leading.

But I also flip out if someone tries to dominate me. I don't want to be in the power-struggle at all.

I'm that weird wolf that runs in the very back of the pack and looks at the trees, or something.

I don’t think the question does, it’s a purely intellectual curiosity. Now calling someone a beta as an insult certainly carries than implication.
