We need a simple three-question test to ward off bandwagon fans.

We know what's going to happen. A bunch of 'patriots fans' and 'broncos fans' and 'packers fans' and 'steelers fans' are going to start buying Chiefs stuff and pretending that they're one of us. We need a way to identify these people quickly. I propose that we develop a standard three-question test that we administer to determine whether we're dealing with an actual Chiefs fan versus a bandwagon fake fan.

The questions need to be questions that a person of any age can answer, so they probably shouldn't be about obscure events of the far past. And they need to be questions that a somewhat casual Chiefs fan could answer even if they're not a hardcore fan like us.

I propose the following. Let me know if you can answer them, and whether you're a legitimate fan or a bandwagon fan. We can adjust the questions if they're too easy or too hard. You can also propose alternatives.

My three proposed questions are:

1. Name at least two Chiefs players who died during their playing career.

2. In the final 2017 preseason game against the Titans, Patrick Mahomes II completed three long passes to this receiver, including an epic rollout that many believe to be his formal unveiling. Who was the receiver?

3. What two teams did Joe Montana's Chiefs defeat in the 1993 playoffs?

I feel that any legitimate Chiefs fan will know the answer to these questions, though I wonder if Q2 is a little too difficult. Thoughts?

My plan is that any time a person comes up to you and starts talking Chiefs, you administer this quiz to determine if they're worthy of your time or not.

It’s not really a question of fandom. I just like the trivia, and I especially remember the 95 season. I went to all 9 home games that year and the game in Arizona. I was in college at the time and it was pretty cool to be able to see all those games that year, except for the playoff game of course.

3. Which Chief holds the record for most receiving yards in a game?

Those with 2 answers:

1. Before Patrick Mahomes, who were the only two Chiefs QB’s to win playoff games since winning Super Bowl IV?

2. Name the only 2 teams the Chiefs beat in the 2012 season?

3. Name the only 2 teams the Chiefs beat in the 2008 season?

And those with 3 answers:

1. Name the 3 Kansas City Chiefs who led the NFL in rushing yards in a single season?

2. Name the 3 Kansas City Chiefs defensive and special teams players who won games in 1995 with walk off TDs?

3. Name the 3 Kansas City Chiefs special teams players who scored TD’s in a playoff clinching win against the Steelers to put the 1986 Chiefs in the playoffs for the first time in 15 years?
Answers:

Nick Lowery in 1990 led the NFL in FG’s made (also with 34 FGs like Butker had this year)

Otis Taylor led the NFL in receiving yards with 1,110 yards receiving in 1971. He actually was the only WR the entire year with 1,000 yards

Stephone Paige still has the record of 309 yards receiving (on just 8 receptions) in a 1985 win over the Chargers in Arrowhead

Joe Montana (twice vs. Steelers & at Oilers) and Alex Smith (at Texans)

New Orleans Saints (this was the game Charles had the 92 yard TD run in the Superdome) and Carolina Panthers (day after Belcher’s murder-suicide) were the only 2 wins the Chiefs had in 2012 before Andy arrived to change all that.

Denver Broncos (home) and Oakland Raiders (road) were the only 2 wins in 2008 to close out the Carl Peterson-Herm Edwards Era

Christian Okoye (1989), Priest Holmes (2001) & Kareem Hunt (2017) are the only Chiefs RBs to ever lead the NFL in rushing yards in a season. Abner Haynes did lead the AFL in rushing yards in 1960 but that of course was with the Dallas Texans and that will not count.

James Hasty (Pick 6 OT winner vs Raiders in Arrowhead on Football Jesus birth date - September 17, 1995)

Tamarick Vanover (OT punt return winner on MNF vs. Chargers)

Mark Collins (fumble return TD vs Oilers in the last seconds of regulation on Sunday Night Football) were the 3 walkoffs in 1995

In the 1986 Chiefs playoff clinching 24-19 win at the Steelers the offense scored just 3 points but the special teams scored all 3 TDs to win that game.

They were Deron Cherry who fell on a blocked punt in the end zone to account for a first-quarter touchdown and Boyce Green and Lloyd Burruss scored in the second quarter on a 97-yard kickoff return and a 78-yard return of a blocked field goal, respectively.

Arrowhead South's membership increased 700% this season in Florida. Met a lot of new people. Every single one of those new fans was born and raised in the Chiefs viewing area. Moved here for work, retirement or the weather.

Even though I could easily answer the questions above, we have taken an approach the more Chief fans watching this golden era of Chiefs football together, the better it is for us hard core fans.

Fair point Wazu

Maybe the following Mahomes only questions can weed out the new bandwagoners. If they don’t know these answers, then you will know they are new Chiefs fans (which is fine by me. It’s great to expand the Fanbase)

Note: Preseason of course does not matter in any of these questions

1. In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chiefs traded up with which team to select Mahomes?

2. Against which team did Patrick Mahomes have his first ever NFL start?

3. Against which team did Patrick Mahomes throw his 50th TD pass in 2018?

4. Who are the only 3 AFC teams Mahomes has not yet defeated?

5. Who are the only 4 NFC teams Mahomes has defeated?

6. Who are the only 5 NFL teams Mahomes has defeated in two different stadiums?

7. In the 2017 NFL Draft, the Chiefs outmaneuvered several teams who wanted to draft/trade up for Mahomes. Name at least 3 of those teams.

Only the first 2 questions are easily answerable by the majority of legit Chiefs fans. Keep in mind though I’ll bet there are many season ticket holders who don’t watch or care about the draft. My wife never misses a game, but I’d probably have to remind her Buffalo was who we traded with. She just doesn’t care about that level of detail.

I usually go the opinion route and can see through the BS answers... not so much for bandwagoning, but to see if it's worth a real football conversation.

As far as bandwagoners... we're the weird ones who watch a shit product years and decades on end. It would be like watching Undisputed for 50 years, waiting for Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe to have an intelligent opinion, just to be annoyed that other people haven't been watching their idiocy after the one time they said something smart (granted, that's less likely than the Chiefs winning the Super Bowl).

I consider myself a diehard fan for 50 years with a pretty good memory for both what I've seen from games and players plus reading stats or stories. I knew many of the answers.

I NEVER knew OT lead the league in reception yards.

I NEVER heard the name Boyce Green until now. I remember that game but I'll be damn if I ever remember hearing any say "BOYCE GREEN FOR THE TD!"

Band wagoners are fine as long as their under 21ish.
If your older and an NFL fan then your team should be established thru thick and thin just as we have done.
So 21 and under welcome aboard with open arms.
One sucky part of being an out of towner is how people have looked at me lately with my Chiefs gear on.
I can read their minds...he must be a band wagoner...yes I have been since the early 80s..sigh.

The 3 questions are fun to think about however.
Its hard to find things that cant be googled.
It has to be weird odd trivia only a well read Chief fan would know.

1. How did Tony G use Arrowhead stadium to test Rookies math skills and knowledge of the Chiefs alumni?

2. Which coach was the most emotional? Crying openly many times on camera?

3. What so called up and coming QB thru for -19 yrds passing at Arrowhead as the Chiefs smothered him? & the reaction to the reporter was?

4. What piece of Gear did Matt Asshole have trouble putting on on camera after another horrific outing?

5. Lennys favorite soda pop was?

6. Which Chiefs coach on national camera refused to shake the opposing teams coach after the game?

I'm sure there is much better ones but I'm trying to stay away from Hey Google.
