The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

You think?

I really don't buy that we are any MORE doomed in your scenario 1 , than your scenario 2.

Scenario 1) we keep albert, bowe and roll the dice on a QB with pick #1...or trade the #1 down for an extra pick and STILL get a QB (bray, barkley, geno etc....)

Scenario 2) we sign smith, let bowe or albert go, then have to get a LT or WR with the #1...

Your question (valid, i grant you) is "arent you DOO00000000MED if the QB fails in scenario 1?

Answer: sure

But, what you dont acknowledge is that WE ARE EVEN MORE DOOMED if scenario 2 fails.....as there are even more unknowns in that scenario.....Alex smith could fail, easily. The LT or WR we draft at 1 could fail....etc....both could fail........

I understand that on paper a 'sure thing' LT is less risky than a QB who is a slight reach, but there are more moving parts in the alex smith scenario......

AND FURTHERMORE you fail to analyze something hugely important:

The up-side

Whats the best case in your scenario? A playoff win in a couple years when Alex is in his 10-11th season?

Sorry, but even IF it is slightly more risky, im gonna go all in on scenario #1, with a way bigger up-side....as the ultimate goal is a ring. So we swing and miss, then we come back next season and swing again.

Things conventional QB's are good at.

They should change it to the National Fantasy League cause that is more important than winning I guess. People don't want to win anymore they want excitement. I guess that makes sense, but I would rather win than have a guy throw 200 yards, manage an offense, get Charles involved with adjustments at the line than a 300 yards and 100 rushing and lose becauseA) dude is too young B) people too enamoured with an offense I feel will be dead in a year or two.

Conventional QB's are the way to go, unless you have a guy like Wilson, Kaep, or RG3. I'm sorry I don't see G. Smith being any one of those.
Dear God. It's dumbass nOOb day at the Planet.

Just because the Cards are interested doesn't mean that the 49ers are interested in sending him to Arizona.

The 49er's should be ALL OVER trading Alex to the Cards.
It will make those 2 easy wins a year even easier.
