Ahh from my experience that is how arborio rice usually looks, short fat grains.

I recommend substituting vegetable oil with olive and buttering and peppering the noodles.

A little of finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano goes well with anything on that plate as well but they do just fine on their own.
