Chiefs agree to trade Alex Smith to Washington

Now you wait until March 14th for it to become official...

I'm glad they have Mahomes and have finally moved on from Alex Smith. They got lucky and had that work out.

I'd rather have spent 2013 and 2014 picks that went to San Fran on cheap young players at other positions.

They overpaid to be not terrible at QB. Could have paid less for cheaper placeholders.
I mean. Wow.

People are still going to bitch about that compensation. Yeah, I want to win a Super Bowl too, but get real here. The Chiefs were a god damn laughing stock that made the playoffs 4 times in basically 17 years prior. Having my Sunday's not be a laughable joke for 17 weeks for the last 5 years has been well worth those 2 second round picks that apparently you think are gold.

They could have transitioned to non-laughing stock status with a lot of guys + Andy Reid and a competent coaching staff. That's my point.

The reason they were a laughing stock was not the talent on the roster. It was the Coaching staff being a complete joke and Fat Scott forcing his hand-picked, complete garbage QB on the coach.

Not everyone gets a chubby simply from not being bad and being a playoff participant (which they still could have easily done with Carson Palmer. Or even a player of "good backup QB" quality like Moore or Daniel. Or Foles.

Get a chubby? Because I want to be entertained for a regular season instead of going 4-12 every year? Again, if you’re going to tell me the Chiefs would have had the same success with Chase Daniel or Matt Moore, I’m going to laugh at how ridiculous you are.

I’ll also laugh at Carson Palmer running an Andy Reid offense. A coach that puts a premium on a qb mobility having Palmer seems like an awful fit.

We get it, you didn’t like Alex, but complaining about compensation 5 years later when the team has flipped him for additional compensation is some nutpicking nonsense.

But you continue to think those 2nd rounders 4 and 5 years ago would have been better.

Overpaid, period.
Alex Smith was always the 12th-20th highest paid starter in the league while in KC. He got paid what he was worth. That is an objective comparison. Comparing his salary to a 3rd string quarterback a decade ago is not a fairy comparison at all. Seriously, Tom Brady signed a 6 year $60 million contract in 2005 that made him the highest paid player in the league. So you can't even objectively compare Smith's salary to starters in 2006, much less to 3rd stringers. As usual, your post is full of fail.

It’s ridiculous! I ****ing hated Alex Smith but danced when I saw Kendall fuller and a third. It was great for a 33 year old Alex Smith. It’s not like we got a 4th round pick or cut him.

No he didn't.

He never deserved to make a starting quarterback's salary.

That's what I'm getting at.

He deserved to be paid a backup's salary for two seasons and then dumped unceremoniously when we had the opportunity to draft Derek Carr.

Smith had a year left on his contract when he was extended, at $7.5m.

THAT is what he is worth.

Yeah, I mean - this was the one time a trade/free agent/draft/something actually worked out in our favor, and not a "because Chiefs" like having the #1 overall pick was. We had the player in the most demand in an offseason where the market for that position was even higher than usual. For an average player we got a mid-level pick and a good, maybe great player. And given that we have an upgrade already on the roster, it's a coup.

You only say this because you're a Chiefs fan.

If Mahomes has 103 TD passes in his first four seasons there are going to be a lot of happy campers around here.

This franchise would absolutely not be "stuck" with Derek Carr. Andy Reid would have him throwing lasers.

Oh yeah??!?! How 'bout you take something disgusting, and preferably bulbous, and shove it into an orifice usually reserved in polite society for private gratification?

Maybe then, people of low standards in locations of ill-repute will offer you payment for the privilege of viewing your debased display.
