This is the realignment topic after all, not one about a rivalry from the 1900s

Louisville still is trying to get into the Big 12. The president was petitioning for it openly at the Final Four.

Sounds like a good move to position themselves like the ACC, as the other basketball conference.

Bring on the city schools, Louisville, Cincy, Memphis... Who knows?

I can't imagine that there won't be more next year. I think Louisville and Cincy want out of the Big East, and the Big XII seems like their only option unless the ACC wants to expand.

The Big East is a disaster. I'm guessing that every football school in it is burning up the phones, but I don't know who would want any of them that haven't already left.

I also think that the SEC still wants to go to 16 eventually, but they're not going to do it unless and until they get exactly who they want. I've thought that NC State and VA Tech make sense as a pair, but I've hear speculation lately that something may be in the works with UNC and Duke.

I have absolutely no idea if it's true or not, but it would send a massive shockwave across college athletics by turning SEC basketball into SEC football.

Louisville's got their own issues. They come from a smallish state, they are a city school, and they might not be the most popular school in their own city. Cincy has the same issues except they are from a large state. Both bring some really good things to the table too, though.

Cincy is WAY down the bottom of the list of most profitable programs in both football and basketball, BTW. That could really hurt them. I haven't checked, but I don't think either school is very good academically.

NC State I can see as they want out of the shadow of UNC. VA Tech is joined at the hip of UVA, so leaving might be tough. UNC and Duke are basketball schools and they are king s@#ts in the ACC. Why would they give that up to go to a conference that does not value basketball where they become equals instead of the big dogs? If anything I could see it being FSU and NC State.
