Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:
Spoiler!

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

i prefer an air raid system to a ground and pound providing limited exposure and maximum protection anytime.

The main problem is the lack of and/or different way of reading defenses

at least you know he can throw it

The knocks on him all seem manufactured.

I think it's clear he's the best player available at the position of most need, but I also don't think there's anything substantial to knock him on. I don't get it.
He was also a Parade All-American as a prep quarterback who called his own plays as a starter his junior and senior years operating out of a pro-style set that he drew up.

The guy has an absolute ton of experience at the QB position, has put up incredible numbers in terms of accuracy and efficiency and has improved every year. This past season was better statistically than either Luck or Griffin's final year in college.

If you don't like Geno Smith as a prospect, you are a ****ing moron.

Bill Stewart ran a pro style set and like the pros, you'll see a lot of shotgun reads. Luck did the same.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_St...ican_football)

As well, the Air Raid system that Holgerson runs is not a "spread" system like Stoops and Meyer runs. It utilizes a lot of mulitple read pro routes.

Quote:
Coach Holgo has kept the no huddle aspect and the practice routine the same, which he says is the most important part of the offense. He also always keeps his "Y" receiver (tight end) to the right of the formation and the "X" receiver (split end) to the left. Those two never leave their respective side of the field. He and other "Air Raiders" do this so they can double the reps they get from one side of the field in practice.

The biggest change in the offense is all the downhill running. Holgo is using a shotgun offset "I" formation and even a "diamond" formation which features three running backs. In the diamond formation, two backs are split next to the shotgun quarterback with an "I" behind the quarterback. The benefit of this formation is that it has no presnap strength, there is no tip to where the offense may be going.

By using this downhill running, Holgerson has developed a lethal play-action passing game that past Air Raiders never had. Mike Leach had one play-action pass, the Y-Cross. Holgo runs the heck out of Y- Cross. Y - Cross is exactly what it sounds like. The Y receivers works across the field through the linebackers and winds up 22 yards deep on the opposite sideline. It works so well as a play-action because if the linebackers come up they Y receiver is wide open immediately.

We are setting the bar so incredibly high for Geno that Im not sure it wont be counter productive once we actually draft him.

At least to some. I know for a fact that I will be very patient with him...but we all know that the true fans will almost immediately put him on blast.

I'm not setting the bar high at all for him if the Chiefs draft him.

There is always a learning curve when catching up to the speed that the pro game runs.

The nice thing is that he's got good tackles to either side, what should be a solid interior when the start of the 2013 season rolls around, an All-Pro running game and an All-Pro receiver.

He'll have support.

I just hope he (and the rest of the team) gets a competent coaching staff.

And a decent defense to help keep him in games.

Dwayne Bowe is not at all an All-Pro receiver and never has been. He's around a top 15 WR, regardless of the QB throwing to him IMO. That being said, I'm higher on McCluster and Moeaki than most Chiefs fans.

Bowe is a top 5 WR. especially considering who's throwing him the ball; being the only target.

Nick Foles just came from an Air Raid offense in Arizona in the 2011 draft. He just took Vick's job and had Philly competing quickly. It's not as scary as Kiper makes it sound...

Luck had 957 yards rushing in college...Geno had 346.

Geno Smith is such a "hybrid quarterback" that he had negative rushing yards in 2011.
RGIII makes the better example. He's run the ball exactly twice as much (114 attempts) as Luck, and and in one less game.
