4k help
I recently purchased a 4k tv. My internet connection isn’t fast enough to stream 4k. Can I download 4k content to my iPad and then stream it to my TV? My TV has chromecast built into it.

There's plenty of ways to mirror your iPad using Chromecast. But it wouldn't be in 4K unless you have the Chromecast Ultra receiver. Usually the TVs only have the normal Chromecast, not the Ultra version that does 4K. Would depend on the TV.

Another thing.. if your internet isn't sufficient to stream 4K directly to the TV, then it's also not going to be sufficient to cast it from another device. Because casting it would use the same slow internet connection(casting actually slows it down some).

If all of your internal "stuff" is gig speed router/fast wifi you shouldn't need higher speeds on the internet.

You need a connection to the web for Chromecast, not necessarily a high speed connection.

I had my mom streaming Plex from her PC to her Firestick through her phone running like a 1x connection. I used a Vonets VAP11G-300. Connect that device to your phones wifi and then connect that device to your router. That puts everything under the same subnet so they talk nicely while still allowing a very slow connection to the web. It needed that connection to the web to work but only to get things running. As a matter of fact, you could unplug that device once you got something playing and it would play just fine. If you tried to start up something new then it would complain.

I believe Chromecast would work much the same way.

you only need around 25-30Mb to stream 4k, you can probably steal that from your neighbors wifi.

This isnt right. If both the Ipad and the TV are on the same lan, the internet speed doesnt matter a single bit.

The only limiting factor would the wi-fi speed, and any modern router should be fine, just make sure the 2.4ghz band (if you are using 2.4 instead of 5) is set to higher than 54mbps

What 4k sources do people stream from? Netflix premium? Doesn't seem like there are many out there.

Ton of 4K content of Amazon and Netflix with a growing amount of them being HDR. If you want to rent or buy movies there are many others.

Thanks Miles. Good reminder that the HDR tag is a good thing to look for in programming tags.
