Offensive Line Musings

I realize we are only looking at a small sample size but the line we played with the past two weeks seems much better at run production and pretty poor at pass protection. With Mahomes we have always seemed to value the latter. I love having some balance but I’m not interested in getting Mahomes hit like he did today. Is it possible that more time to gel will help these new guys when they aren’t just meant to be road graders?

A big part of the problem today was not picking up the free rusher. 1. Pat has to adjust the play calling better to neutralize that and 2. the RB's have to pick that up.

They'll get it sorted out.

Kizer will need to figure that out as well. I’m assuming he was in there for Sherman on a play like that.

Patrick is pretty damn tough, because a couple of those licks he took could have done some damage. I don't like that at all. They better get it fixed, sooner rather than later.

They were in empty or were releasing the rb out in a route

Pat has to get rid of it

Maybe it is just me but Patrick seemed to be a bit complacent calling out adjustments before the snap

They were on the play call and the RB not being ready for the screen pass that had to be thrown so quickly. Given 1 more second and the second one certainly works. Not so sure about the first one; the defender was in position to knock it down.

On the first one, he had to eat the ball because Chubb jumped and Mahomes couldn't get the ball over him

On the second one where Chubb comes in, Mahomes threw the ball to CEH but CEH didn't even turn around for it.

Third time that Chubb runs free, Mahomes got rid of the ball but short hopped it to the WR.

The sack from the right was a complete whiff by Keizer

Did CEH not turn around twice? The time I recall this the ball was thrown his way. I’m wondering if that gaffe by CEH caused Patrick to be tentative later.

Yep.

Both Bell and CEH released instead of reading the defense, something that both can correct quickly.

Pat has to call out to Bell/CEH what their protections are if they aren’t able to diagnose it themselves. That should get ironed out this week, so I’m not too worried.

I could be wrong on CEH but I thought he didn't turn around to look for the ball and thought that Chris Collinsworth even made reference to it. Could be wrong though
