If they cut him, he doesn't get paid by the Chiefs. He still counts against their cap but he doesn't get anymore cash from them.

I'm not sure how what he's doing forces them into an injury settlement either.

Berry still has 2.9m in guaranteed money pending. He also has another $7.25M 2019 salary fully guarantees on 3/15/2019 but I not sure what that money is for or how it works. His base salary is 12.4m, all veteran's base salary becomes guaranteed at the start of the regular season with whichever team they are currently on.

I think that since he had 40m guaranteed in his contract the Chiefs will have to pay him around 10.2m next year UNLESS he chooses to retire. Then the chiefs can try to recoup some or all of that guaranteed money. That's why Berry won't just retire. He will try to force the Chiefs to cut him so he gets all his guaranteed money.

He will be getting paid by 2 teams next year if that's what he's trying to do. The only question is how much will the Chiefs still be paying him.

From what I understand, the money is only guaranteed for injury. If he passes a physical, they can cut him and owe him nothing.

I'm not sure where you got that veteran's base salaries are guaranteed at the start of the league year. They're not, as far as I can tell, unless they're guaranteed for injury. In Berry's case, he has such a clause, which means if he can't pass a physical, his base salary becomes guaranteed. However, from what I understand, if he passes said physical, they can cut him and his 2019 base salary, no strings.
