Hope this is all true, it makes a ton of sense. Sounds like Ford will likely be tagged, as Rapoport says they would like to keep him somehow.

It all the right moves but it kills the FA market for the Chiefs this offseason unless they get cut happy, gotta improve the team from here via the draft only pretty much.

Houston knows he can be cut anytime after this season. He can either play out a nonguaranteed contract and negotiate a worse deal later. Which also means good chance he leaves kc. Or he can negotiate a guaranteed deal that makes him a chief for life. Its in his best interest to go door #2. And they'd sign him for a hell of a lot less than if he hit the open market, plus I'm sure he'd take a hometown discount.

It really just depends on whether his ego will allow him to take less than his 2015 contract reads, or he gets disgruntled and takes the same diminished contract from another team.
