Movies

Yeah, so I saw a lot of movies this weekend.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age - Mediocre, at best. Slow and dragged on. Shorten it to 2 hours and it's golden. It's not, so it fails.

Michael Clayton - Amazing. Everything about it is awesome. However, it's VERY complex and mind bending. You have to think, so be prepared. I still feel like I'm missing key details of exactly what happened. Gotta see it again.

Across the Universe - Perfect is one word that comes to mind. It just works. And, contrary to many people I bet, the movie is best viewed sober. Trust me.

I'm with you on this one. I thought this movie was HORRIBLE. It became really REALLY obvious that he was dreaming.

Click was no good, but Moulan Rouge was pretty good, IMO. They did a great job of finding contemporary songs with lyrics that fit the storyline of the movie.

I've been on a good roll lately.

Saw Slumdog Millionaire, The Wrestler, Frost/Nixon, and Milk all within the past two weeks.

All were excellent movies. My favorite was Slumdog, followed closely by Milk.

sw Seven Pounds last night. Pretty decent, if a bit muddled at times. Did choke me up a tad at the end, I will admit.

The reason I ask, is that the trailer made it look good. Like an epic.

My biggest concern was that it might turn out to be like watching paint dry. (much like the critically acclaimed "Out of Africa".)
It is not dull. It is a movie that can't decide what it wants to be. It's like a comedy/adventure/drama and it is bad at all three. I've about had it with movies that CGI everything to death. This is a movie that is reportedly filmed in australia, but they may as well have filmed it in front of a blue screen. CGI COWS for god's sake. There is more than enough natural beauty in Australia without having to repaint the entire landscape to make it seem more attractive, certainly not to the point of making the Milky Way ridiculously detailed in nighttime shots. The pacing of the movie is not good, the acting was very, very poor, and the entire premise of the movie is just not believable. Highest recommendation to avoid.

That's funny. I saw an interview with Guy Pierce the other day where he essentially said the same thing. I believe his quote was something along the lines of, that movie looks as much like Australia as Los Angeles does.

I know that's not a huge description but I hate giving synopsis because I always feel like I'm giving away things.

EDIT: Here's imdb's summary:

In the early 1980s, the successful dramatist Georg Dreyman and his longtime companion Christa-Maria Sieland, a popular actress, are big intellectual stars in the socialist state, although they secretly don't always think loyal to the party line. One day, the Minister of Culture becomes interested in Christa, so the secret service agent Wiesler is instructed to observe and sound out the couple, but their life fascinates him more and more
Just want to second this one. If you haven't seen it, you need to. Great flick.

The more I watch 'Dark Knight', the more impressed I am with Ledger. Every time he makes an entrance/introduction to different characters as the film progresses, he just nails it.

I think Oldman is great for his role too.

Just watched this again on my home theater. Gained an even great appreciation for the impact IMAX has on that movie. It was still great, but IMAX made it all the more memorable. I'd heard they'll re-release the movie again after the new year. If you didn't see it in IMAX the first time, do yourself a favor....
