I bet he told the Raiders to cut him if they weren't going to start him. So he could be holding out for another starting gig somewhere and the Chiefs aren't going to guarantee that. But maybe if he doesn't get his starting role offer in a few days, he'll sign with us.

From what i just read, the Grudens claim to have cut him in favor of a practice squad kid. The Grudens were worried that someone would snatch him off the practice squad, so they cut DJ and signed the kid.
