The Early Years Tournament: Round 1, Heat 31.
We've got a defensive game versus an offensive game in this heat. What do you like?
2021 - Week 11 - W 19-9 over DAL https://www.pro-football-reference.c...2111210kan.htm Chiefs 6-4 / Cowboys 7-2 This game was a strong team effort. The defense held the opposing QB (Prescott) to 216 yards, with 2 Interceptions and 5 sacks. Mahomes passed for a nice 260 yards, and Tyreek was the leading yardage guy with 110 yards. Chris Jones had a career day with 3.5 sacks, along with the recovery on a Frank Clark sack and strip. Dallas never found a suspicious white powder that was the goal line. At 6:20 of the highlights you'll see a beautiful coverage interception by Ward, and Sneed ended the game with an interception. On the negative side of the ledger, Mahomes had one interception on a rare Kelce tipped ball, and Butker missed a FG and XP, despite making three other kicks. Perhaps the most interesting play of the game, though, was an ultra-rare fake field-goal pooch punt by Harrison Butker, which was placed beautiful to pin the opponents inside their own five yard line. And who do you think downed the ball? Townsend and Allegretti lit out as soon as the play started, and Townsend downed the ball at the 2. It's worth a watch at the 12:10 mark of the highlights. 2018 - Week 13 - W 40-33 over OAK https://www.pro-football-reference.c...1812020rai.htm Chiefs 9-2 / Raiders 2-9 Okay, watch Tyreek's acceleration at 0:23 of the highlights. It's too bad he retired from the Chiefs so young. Allen Bailey forced a fumble beautifully at 1:00, and Xavier Williams did the same at 2:40 in a pile that took forever for the refs to unwind. The Raiders RBs lost three fumbles in the game. Mahomes was definitely in a zone, throwing for 295 yards and 4 TDs, and adding another 52 rushing. You can see an example of a nice scramble and pass at 5:05, along with Demarcus Robinson carrying the ball like a loaf of bread in a manner matched only by Lesean McCoy in Chiefs history. And speaking of Chiefs history, Kelce had a fantastic day with 168 yards receiving and 2 TDs, and his almost-TD catch at 8:45 of the highlights may be your favorite Kelce touchdown that you don't remember since it was called down in the field of play. You gotta take a look. Demetrius Harris doesn't show up with a lot of stats, but he had a nice day as well with some nice catches, including a great TD catch at 9:19. The defense gave up a ton of yards and the game was chock full o' penalties, but 2018 Mahomes got more yards. |

The Dallas game takes it for me. You could tell Mahomes still wasn't back to 100% or trusting himself fully in that game, and to see the defense come up with one of their more dominating performances in the Mahomes era to pick up Mahomes, the offense, and the special teams was phenomenal to watch. Jones had a DT like day and it may have been the greatest regular season day of his career.
