QB Impressions

First glances at several QBs we're going to give a shit about over the next four months. Feel free to set me straight.

DeShone Kizer, Notre Dame
6'4", 230 lbs
26-9 TD-INT, 59%, 2925 passing yards

I get a Cutlerian vibe from this guy. Seems to be built like a franchise QB. Powerful arm, some beautiful passes, perfect bodytype. But he is lacking an "it" factor, is he not? He's not a world-beating, overcome-the-odds, particularly spiriting QB. Looks like he could have an okay career in the NFL in which he wins nothing of consequence.

Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina
6'3", 220 lbs
30-6 TD-INT, 69%, 3748 passing yards

Well if there was one Andy Reid QB in this entire draft, it's Trubisky, isn't it? Super accurate, doesn't take too many risks with the ball, is very mentally tough and very athletic. He's a slam dunk for the Chiefs to trade up for, if he lasts to the 20s, but in a QB-starved NFL with at least 6 new head coaches looking for their QB, there's no chance he lasts to us.

Turbinsky to Cleveland (who trades back into the top 10) and Watson to the Jets.

I've had some free time today finally as the kids are getting over their illnesses so I've caught up on some of the Mahomes and company media tour and watched some more stuff on him.

He's such a gunslinger. He's reckless at times to a huge fault. But watching some of his interviews, I'm not sure he was ever really coached out of it or tried to tamper it down at Tech. He made a comment on Gruden that they said something to the effect of "you know you shouldn't throw it like that, get more downhill etc, but you made the throw ok, so whatever".

The more I read into him, he seems like a really smart and good kid, nice leader etc. His aggressive nature could be a good match with Reid's conservativeness at times. Yin and yang maybe?

I don't know about trading up for him though. He's got a lot of rough edges.

If so, they were doing that before this release of Howard.

I think now, if Foster is sitting there at 27, run to the podium.

The scout's/GM's that McGinn talked to sure didn't have a whole lot of nice things to say about Kizer...

Spoiler!
http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports...ust/100737052/

McGinn wrote another article and had the scouts/GM's comment on the other QB's... McGinn also got their Wonderlic scores, FWIW.

Spoiler!

Being scared of Webb bc Goff didn't play well last year is beyond stupid. Put Dak Prescott on that shitty team and he would look awful too, likewise Goff would have probably looked decent playing on a Dallas offense with elite talent everywhere.
It's also funny that they don't mention Prescott having success and he was also a spread offense QB.

These scouts seem to forget another Cal QB who was knocked for the system that didn't produce good players, but the player had great tools to work with and developed after time to be coached.

Webb isn't Rodgers nor will he ever be, but he could be a quality starter if he is properly developed.

From Peter King's MMQB...

Quote:
I won’t be surprised if the Giants (seeking a tackle), scheduled to pick 23rd, or the Texans (seeking a quarterback), scheduled to pick 25th, move up into the teens. Baltimore (16) and Tennessee (18) would be happy to move down.

I have never heard a football person NOT named Andy Reid use that description.

It wouldn't shock me at all if that 'second scout' comes from the Chiefs tree and they had someone with eyes on Chad Kelly.
