Lamar Jackson is a NIGHTMARE!!

When the media tried to compare him to Pat before we played the Ravens it pissed me off because he'd beaten up on weak teams and of course no-one compares to number 15. But after watching him yesterday I must say this kid is gonna be a NIGHTMARE to deal with for years to come IF he continues to be so dynamic with the ball In his hands. Seattle simply had no answers to what he was doing and when he didn't run he was dropping the odd dime here and there with his arm. It got so bad that even "mvp favourite" Russell Wilson caved to the pressure and threw a pick six.

I wonder how long he can do this before the league catches up with him? The Ravens will be playing the Pats soon and I'm very intrigued to see what old Bill comes up with to slow down Lamar. We've seen guys like Kap, Vick and Cam be electric running the ball but Lamar seems to run in a different time zone on that field tbh .

It was a good play for him and the ravens but it was a pass play and the pocket broke down a little and as soon as he had to step up he already tucked the ball away and was looking for a running lane. Again it was a good play. And his wrs, rbs and tes know to be aware that hes likely gonna take off and to be ready to start blocking. BUT, pat would take that same play and be looking to throw all the way up to the line of scrimmage. As would most qbs. Lamar's mentality is to run whether he believes it or not, its proven.

Hes also smarter than rg3 so hell probably not get hit as hard so many times and that will allow him to last longer as a starter. But I dont think its sustainable.
So how does he compare to Watson? Similar talents in many ways. IMO, Watson is a much better passer and nearly as good when he runs. The difference is that Jackson defaults to running.

I haven't watched every Ravens game, only really paid attention to the game they played before the Chiefs and then the Chiefs game, then lost interest in them.

My instant reaction to yesterdays game was that the Ravens are probably giving up on him being a passer, and going back to the gimmick running stuff that worked for them last year before they got figured out spectacularly in the playoffs.

IIRC, Lamar has played in exactly 16 NFL games now, give or take a game. And he's still mostly a RB that can throw.

But he has shown some flashes. He has now had a couple three games in which he threw pretty well. Yeah, against bad defenses, but some of his throws pass the eye test. Sometimes he's thrown some very good passes.

However, right now he's most dangerous as a runner. He's simply uncatchable 1v1. And if he gets past the LBs, there's only a handful of CBs that can catch him. And then they have to tackle him. And forget safeties; I don't think there's a safety that can run with that guy.

If he ever learns to read a defense at a decent level, and becomes more accurate as a passer, he's going to make defenses lose sleep on Saturday nights for the next 5-6 years.

Change "Lamar" to "Kaepernick" and that's what people were saying about Kaepernick 7 years ago...

Absolutely true. And IF CK had developed an ability to read defenses, go through his reads, etc. he probably would still be in the league.

But there's no saying that Lamar CAN'T learn to do those things. Just because he's compared to the likes of CK, doesn't mean he's going to become CK. He could learn and become something better. But to watch him play for 16 games and then write him off as "just another Kaepernick," is a bit of an overreaction, IMO. Let's at least give him until he's played out the rest of this season and maybe next season before we brand him a bust.

AFC opposition bias.

As I alluded to earlier, he's in a '3 Bears' strata of potential at the moment.

Steve Young is too hot [ceiling]
Jeff Garcia is too cold [floor]
Randall Cunningham is just right, maybe a tad better so long as he avoids injury.

IMO watson is definitely a better passer. But not as good running. That may be just because he doesnt immediately look for the running lanes like lamar does, idk. TBH I haven't seen as many Watson drives as I have of lamar. Not sure why but nfl redzone seems to show a lot more of the ravens when they have the ball than they show the texans on offense.

Agreed. And remember Baker and crew went into their house and handed them their ass which nobody saw coming.

In due time Jackson will realize just like all the rest that he will either become a student of the game or end his career being a beat up backyard running back who throws the ball from time to time.

Is there many quarterbacks you can't say that about? I feel like you are saying if a below average QB improves, they will be able to stay in the league. That's not really saying much.

I don't know how you could get that from what I wrote.

CK started with an enormous advantage over just about any QB you could think of. The only thing he lacked, which most people didn't consider, was what was going on between his ears.

It is possible that a QB could have every physical talent needed to be a successful QB, except football intelligence. And it just as likely that you could have the exact same QB physically, but with more intelligence. Or just about any combination in between. For example: Joe Montana was average in just about any metric you care to name. Your basic average in arm strength, height, mobility, etc. However, the metric that couldn't be measured was football intelligence.

Lamar Jackson may be a very raw QB right now. But there is no evidence that he can't become a great QB. He certainly has the physical attributes to be an exceptional QB. The only question remains whether he has the intelligence to maximize his gifts.
