It's the exact opposite: McMahon has stated that there will be an emphasis on player safety.

Manziel has a criminal record, so he's out. McMahon has also stated that every player will be required to stand for the national anthem, so I seriously doubt that Kaepernick will be involved.

Also, for a guy like Kaepernick, what's the incentive? He's still worth tens of millions and I seriously doubt that at age 32, he'll want to play for $15k a game or less.

McMahon is funding the league with $100 million dollars for 8 teams. After staffers, GM's, a 40 man roster for each team, etc., the paychecks will be less than what NFL Practice Squad players are paid.

Ohh boy.......

Quote:
During a Facebook Live press conference on Thursday afternoon announcing the return of the XFL, WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon said his relaunched professional football league will allow "no criminality whatsoever." McMahon said that even a DUI arrest, a relatively common offense among NFL players, can preclude a player from being signed by an XFL team.

[...]

McMahon, 72, also said that the XFL will stay out of political and social issues, something for which the NFL has been criticized since allowing players to kneel during the playing of the national anthem before games. He also said that it would be "appropriate" to require XFL players to stand for the anthem.

If the XFL is "staying out of political and social issues," wouldn't the logical thing be to not play the anthem before games at all?

Saying that you're going to stay out of things like that in one breath but then saying that players will be REQUIRED to stand in another breath seems kinnnnda like a contradiction. Maybe its just me.. Inb4 the people saying the anthem is not a political thing.. you would have been right about that a few years ago, but it is absolutely a politicized issue at the moment.

Yeah, the WWF has a long history of strict moral standards for its employees.

The only way I'll watch is if the Iron Sheik is the color man for every game.

Always felt there is room an nfl alternative. There will be a ton of discarded players happy to play for those checks.

Not sure if this is it though.

This was gonna be a titanic failure with or without the political stance/non-stance/whatever Vince has in mind

Let him burn his money

I wont bother watching it, and I'd bet most others wont either... bring back NFL Europe, then I'd give a damn

The original XFL was a joint venture between WWE and NBC, whom at the time, didn't have any NFL Broadcast Rights.

Finding a broadcast partner, when NFL ratings have seen a downturn recently, isn't going to be easy.

McMahon has stated that "We want someone who does not have any criminality associated with them whatsoever. In the XFL, even if you have a DUI, you will not play in the XFL," McMahon said. "If Tim Tebow wants to play, he could very well play.", which will make it much more difficult to find a talent pool, especially since the NFL expanded their Practice Squads to 10 from 8.

I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL countered by allowing more PS players and expanding the Game Day roster.
I wonder if they'd put the games on the WWE network.

If he plays this right...it can work.

I'd watch it. Need teams in major markets without a pro team though.

St Louis
San Diego
Oakland
Portland
Salt Lake City

Then concentrate on college hotbeds.

Austin
Memphis
Louisville
Omaha
Albuquerque

Then places like Green Bay that would be a small market that would be family oriented.

Fargo
Des Moines
Boise
Columbus
Oklahoma City
