Chiefs vs Broncos predictions

I've enjoyed making these for games earlier in the year, so why not make one for the biggest game in recent Chiefs history?

What I hope happens

Charles has a monster game. He finishes the game with 26 rushes for 158 yards and a TD. He also catches 8 passes for 75 yards.

Alex Smith shows he has the ability to be more than just a game manager, throwing for 263 yards and two TDs. More importantly, he has no turnovers on the day.

The Chiefs defense and special teams come up big. Succop hits all 3 of his FG tries, including 2 from 50 plus yards. The Chiefs defense sacks Manning 5 times, causing a fumble on a strip sack by Derrick Johnson. Marcus Cooper returns a Manning INT for a TD.

Chiefs win 37-28

Debbie Downer here.

I think the Chiefs have a better chance at winning the SB then we do winning in Denver on Sunday night.

Just a gut feeling.

That's because teams don't respect him over ten yards and are focusing the d inside of ten. Also hurts our run game

Pure speculation but if true, I dont mind it because all he has to do is start throwing it out to the next level where he has had success already.

That's just the thing. If Alex completes the 3-4 of the wide open deep passes we have had this year then the defense would be shitting their pants.

If the deep pass starts hitting, the Chiefs have a tremendous chance at winning the whole thing.

Bullshit.

Throwing outside the numbers 11-20 he might be the worst QB in the NFL.

Chiefs win 31-17. Manning's Mobility causes him to rush throws and make bad reads. Defense comes out big. Alex smith throws for 2 touchdowns and Jamaal Runs for 1.

So let me get this right. You're saying the Chiefs are going to score 7+ over their season average and Denver will be held 24+ under their season average?....

Decker quits on routes if DB is too physical. Clark isn't going to handle Tamba well at all. Peyton relies on Zone coverage instead of the Bump and run Man to Man coverage that the Chiefs D plays.

Also, Chiefs are known for Ball control.

As for the running debate about Alex Smith and predictions and non-Smith fans being wrong...

He has done a good job controlling his INTs when asked to throw more (some of that based on luck, early), but his overall performance has plummeted, just like non-believers thought it would if asked to throw more often.

If the Chiefs defense hadn't taken a MASSIVE step forward (rather than the decent step many thought), the middling-record predictions (between 7-10 wins) would be pretty on-the-money.

It's awesome that the Chiefs defense took that step, and it makes the team fun to watch again. Enjoyable again.

The offense is what we thought it would be. Alex Smith is what we thought he was. Just because the defense is much better than anticipated and is dragging the lackluster offense to a great record doesn't mean you can't be disappointed about how crappy the Alex Smith-led offense is.

Oh, and regarding drops... the Chiefs are 8th in drops in the NFL at 20 and have fallen down the rankings considerably in the past few weeks (out of the top 5). The drop percentage is not THAT high (lower than notable passing attacks such as New England and Denver, actually).

It hasn't helped, but it isn't like dropped passes are an extreme outlier completely undermining Alex Smith.

Uh, yeah.

Are you suggesting that the Chargers could hold you to the high 20's but KC can't?...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It doesn't mean you CAN'T be disappointed. But we don't always do something just because we CAN.
