No offer made to Hartwell by Miami?
According to Hartwell's agent Miami has not made an offer to him. I don't really have any idea what this means since I don't even know if we are still in the running for him
Here is the article. It is at the very bottom in the Noteworthy section. http://www.palmbeachpost.com/dolphin...hins_0309.html Frerotte, Spragan expected to sign By Greg A. Bedard Palm Beach Post Staff Writer Wednesday, March 09, 2005 After addressing defense with their three free-agent signings, the Dolphins looked at help on offense Tuesday as quarterback Gus Frerotte and tackle Stockar McDougle joined linebacker Donnie Spragan in visiting Davie. Spragan was close to a deal before having to make his flight home to Denver, but is expected to become the fourth free agent to sign with the Dolphins today. He is will compete for the starting strong-side spot, which was vacated when Morlon Greenwood signed with Houston. Frerotte, 34, is expected to sign with the Dolphins this week because of his familiarity with offense coordinator Scott Linehan's system. Frerotte, who has made 64 starts in 11 seasons, played for Linehan the past two seasons in Minnesota. If a Frerotte deal falls through, the Dolphins might turn to former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starting quarterback Brad Johnson. He is scheduled to visit Friday. Johnson, 36, will meet with the Detroit Lions today and with the Chicago Bears on Thursday. The Dolphins are among many teams that have expressed interest in New York Giants receiver Ike Hilliard, but the former University of Florida standout won't make any visits until next week at the earliest. McDougle, a Fort Lauderdale native, was thought to be out of the Dolphins' price range because of his quick feet and size (6-feet-6, 335 pounds). McDougle, 28, made 54 starts in five seasons with the Detroit Lions, who selected him in the first round of the 2000 draft. As part of his agreement to restructure his contract to the veteran's minimum, left tackle Damion McIntosh was assured by the Dolphins that they wouldn't sign any free-agent tackles. McIntosh's agent, Steve Feldman, declined to comment on McDougle's visit. Spragan, at 6-3 and 239 pounds, has the size that Dolphins coach Nick Saban wants in his linebackers. Spragan, 28, made a career-high 67 tackles for the Denver Broncos last season. Where will Darius go? Jaguars franchise safety Donovin Darius certainly wants out of Jacksonville. After telling The Miami Herald, "I would love it if something could be done" about a trade to the Dolphins, Darius told The Star Tribune of Minneapolis that he wants to be a Viking. "Tell the fans up there that if I had my choice of any team in the league to play for, it would be the Minnesota Vikings," Darius said. "I've looked at every team in the league, and it's definitely the best fit for both sides." Darius signed his one-year, $4.97 million tender Feb. 28. A team could sign Darius but it would cost two first-round picks. A trade could be made, but a league source said the Jaguars would want a first-round pick. Noteworthy: According to a league source, the Dolphins will play the Chicago Bears in the Hall of Fame exhibition game Aug. 8 in Canton, Ohio.... Former Dolphins quarterback Jay Fiedler met with the Bears on Tuesday and will visit the New York Jets on Thursday. Brian Levy, Fiedler's agent, said he expects a decision by the end of the week.... Harold Lewis, the agent for linebacker Ed Hartwell, said there is no truth to the published report that the Dolphins made an offer to Hartwell, a free agent who played for Baltimore. |

I'd say the '9ers are a darkhorse in the race for him as well. Nolan was his DC and Singletary was his ILB coach. Both are now in Frisco. They have to have the cap and cash room as well. Just a rebuilding team. He did seem to like us and his visit and his agent wanted him here so it all depends on money, even IF we are still in the running after signing Bell.

If it's one position the 49ers are strong at, it's linebacker so I doubt they are going to go after Hartwell.
They have Derek Smith, Peterson, Jamie Winbourn and Jeff Ulrich there. Smith is a big Nolan guy from their time in DC. |

Looks like they are set at ILB then. Didn't realize they had that good of a LB crew all around.
