Geno Smith fans roll call

NEW THREAD HEADER (11/17/12):

The list is gone. We will all be Geno Smith fans when he gets drafted by the Chiefs. For historical documentation's sake, I'll keep the list in a separate post on this thread: http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=3314

WHY GENO SMITH?
If you're wondering if Geno Smith is right for you, check out this brilliant post by Saccopoo:

http://www.chiefsplanet.com/BB/showp...postcount=5388

Next, we have a few GIFs you may be interested in from the Oklahoma game. Insane potential. These are the elite throws that very few QBs can make. What more can I say? Geno Smith can be a franchise QB in the NFL, and the Chiefs need to take a shot on him.

GIF #1:
Spoiler!

GIF #2:

GIF #3 (My favorite):
Spoiler!

HOW DO WE GET HIM HERE?

Glad you asked. I posted this checklist earlier. It probably belongs in the thread header, and will be updated as the Chiefs close out their season and start a new chapter in their franchise story.

Preparing for Geno Smith's Arrival In KC Checklist

1. [X] Lose games and acquire the #1 overall pick
2. [X] Get Pioli and the Patriot Way cronies the **** out
3. [X] Hire new GM/coach

OPTIONAL (but highly recommended):
4. [ ] Re-sign/tag Bowe, who really wants to play in KC with Geno
5. [ ] Re-sign/tag Albert

I wonder if McShay will ever get tired of being contractually-obligated to follow behind Kiper and make sure he parrots everything Helmet-hair says to prop up his reputation.

Maybe it's just because we've never been in this situation before, but at this point with so many of us wanting Geno (and it's not just us, it's a lot of fans on other sites), it seems almost impossible that he'll be picked.

It's like the Chiefs NEVER do what we want and now this is just the next thing we're stamping our feet and crying about.

Of course Pioli is being fired so maybe not...

Both Kiper and McShay are going to look even dumber than they do already once Geno smokes the combine, wows people, and his stock is at an all time high.

I like Mike Glennon but there is no universe where he should be rated higher than Smith...same for Tyler Wilson, who is nothing but a big arm.

Hey Chiefs fans,

I'm a current senior at WVU, so I have seen 99.9 percent of Geno Smith's snaps in college, many of them in person. I have read through this entire thread in interest of what fans thought about Geno. I feel that maybe I can just provide some of my thoughts about him since I have probably seen him than most here.

First I'd like to say that I grew up in the Boston area as BC fan and watched Matt Ryan throughout his career. And when Atlanta drafted Matt I posted on one of their forums that they got a true franchise quarterback and he will make them very happy. Some of them thought it was dumb and wanted Dorsey, while others were under the same belief as many of you that a quarterback is the right way to go. Living in that area, I've also watched Tom Brady for years. Now I am not any quarterback expert at all nor claim to be, but I believe I can provide you some perspective on Geno.

Now first I'll start by saying, Geno seems to be a good kid from everything I know. He has never been in any trouble at school, nor have I ever seen him out causing any trouble. Having just seen him around campus, I can say he's got a solid physical frame. He's a legit 6-foot-3 (I'm 6'1" and he easily towers me), maybe a little taller. He's also still got the frame to add some more muscle as he progresses. Many have refferenced some articles where he was a child prodigy in art and a perfectionist when younger. He seems to be pretty religous and has his head on straight from everything I know.

Now everyone knows how he started the year off. I can say that attending some of those games, it was just incredible to behold the quarterbacking performances he was putting on, particularly with that Baylor game. Now he did seem to struggle beginning with that Texas Tech game. I believe that Geno did have an off day as well as the rest of the team which would carry over into the following games. Some of the blame has to be directed on the defense though which was just attrocious. I truly believe, and this is just one fan's perspective, that he began to press because of how poor the defense was. In the Texas Tech game, the defense just put the team in such a difficult spot early on.

The Kansas State game was next which Geno threw his first interception of the year and was fairly poor in the game. I believe the team truly believed they could push for a championship and the stunning loss in Texas Tech would carry over. Now Geno still put up decent stats but you could tell something was wrong. I haven't seen anyone mention this in the thread, but Geno's favorite target, Stedman Baily sprained his ankle in the Texas Tech game. WVU also lost their main rushing threat in Shawn Alston earlier in the year. Bailey wasn't healty for a while and that really hurt Geno. Stedman is Geno's security blanket. While WVU's offense had some explosive capababilities, a lot of that centered around the trio of Tavon Austin, Geno and Bailey. There isn't much "Big 12" talent elsewhere.

The Oklahoma game was obviously incredible and some of the throws Geno made were easily NFL caliber. I believe Geno finally got some of his swagger back, which we had not seen since Texas. When Geno is on, he's one of the best I've ever seen. Easily better than what I remember Matt Ryan when he was at his best.

Don't overlook the fact that Geno has progressed every single season at WVU. Some of that may be the system, but you can tell throughout the year he worked hard to get better. I believe Geno will only continue to get better and he really cares about football. I don't think everyone does and the good ones really care. Family and religion might be the most important thing in his life, but after that it's football.

Now in terms of his actual strengths, I believe he has very good pocket awareness, perhaps the best in all of college football this year. He does a great job of keeping his eyes down field. Sometimes it can be a detriment because he stays in the pocket too long, but he's always looking to pass it before thinking about running. He's got a very good arm. Accuracy isn't a concern either. He can put it on the money. I like to think of Geno has a momentum quarterback. When he gets going, it's tough to stop him. Geno also has perhaps the most important quarterback trait. He's clutch. Dating back to his sophomore year he led WVU on two 90+ yard drives late in the fourth quarter at Marshall to tie it up. Then he won it in overtime. Many of you saw the Oklahoma game with those comebacks. He's done it against Pitt our rival junior year, South Florida for a berth in the Oranga bowl. I could go on but I think you get the point. He's not affraid of the late game stage.

He has played a ton of football and has a lot of experience. He's a combined 27-12, with one more bowl game to go. He's broken a ton of WVU records and if it had been for a few late game stops, a made extra point, not missing a chip shot field goal against TCU. Geno would be 9-3 and have a lot more media love. If Geno was not the quarterback of this team we'd be lucky to have 4 wins.

I've probably gone on long enough and if you made it through this entire post thank you. I really hope Geno ends up on the Chiefs because I feel you guys have a great fanbase. In my opinion (probably biased) I easily believe Geno is the best quarterback in this draft, and better than past first round QB's Bradford, Gabbert, Ponder, Locker, Stafford, Sanchez etc. I don't believe he's Luck or RG3 level, but Geno will be a very good NFL quarterback if provided a solid support system, good coach and patience. Also if you draft Geno, you HAVE TO DRAFT Stedman Bailey. They have been best friends since middle school and have incredible chemistry. Having Bailey with him would only enhance Geno's growth on and off the field in my opinion. If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask them as I've defintiely left things out in my post.

Good luck on your quest for the number 1 pick and I hope to see Geno in KC next year.

Good luck on your quest for the number 1 pick and I hope to see Geno in KC next year.
bingo

by the way, marty never took me up on my offer of a handy for his 'pioli is gone post'...so the offer stands

welcome
