What else do we know?


As of today, Microsoft has confirmed which games will be out on launch day for the Xbox One. That list includes both Activision's Call of Duty: Ghosts and Ubisoft's Watch Dogs. Ghosts comes out on November 5, but Watch Dogs won't be out until November 19. Of all of the games on Microsoft's launch list today, Watch Dogs has the latest confirmed release date.

So there are five scenarios:

1) The Xbox One comes out between November 1 and November 14, with Watch Dogs launching earlier on Xbox One than it will on any other platforms, including PS4, which is getting timed-exclusive levels for it. THIS IS HIGHLY UNLIKELY

2) The Xbox One comes out between November 15, on the same day as the PS4. UNLIKELY. MICROSOFT AND SONY WOULD BE HYPING EACH OTHER'S RELEASE DATES. TOO WEIRD

3) The Xbox One comes out between November 16 and November 18, launching before the PC and current gen versions but after PS4. MAYBE, BUT SEEMS TOO CLOSE TO PS4

4) The Xbox One comes out between November 19 and November 29, on or after the release of the other versions of Watch Dogs but not after Black Friday, the biggest shopping day of the year. SEEMS LIKELY

5) The Xbox One will launch on November 30, missing Black Friday by a day. RIDICULOUS. NOT HAPPENING

No one official will nail this down for us, of course.

A rep for Xbox told us today that "we haven’t announced a specific date. We’ve only confirmed that Xbox One will launch in 13 markets around the world in November 2013."

As for Ubisoft, a spokesperson simply said: "Watch Dogs is still slated for release on Nov. 19 for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. The game will also be available on PS4 and Xbox One when those systems launch."

The Xbox Live Family Pack membership tier will be split into individual Xbox Live Gold subscriptions from August 27, pending the launch of an umbrella scheme Home Gold on the upcoming Xbox One.

Home Gold "allows anyone in your home to enjoy many Gold features, like multiplayer, access to Gold entertainment apps, and more on your Xbox One," according to Microsoft's FAQ on the change. Meanwhile, each previous member of the Family Pack plan sticking with Xbox 360 will see their old user profile become a standard Xbox Live Gold sub, each credited with the amount of months that had remained on the Family account, plus an extra three months free.

The Home Gold feature works by covering "a single, designated Xbox One console in a Gold member's home."

"It will enable any Xbox Live Gold member on Xbox One to extend many Gold features to others at no additional cost," wrote Microsoft's Chief Product Officer Marc Whitten on Xbox.com. "One Xbox Live Gold account delivering great benefits to everyone in the home."

The Xbox Live Gold Family Pack subscription combined four Xbox Live Gold memberships for less than the price of two -- $99 per year as opposed to $59 each -- but did not tie benefits to a particular console.
The way it should have been from day one.

Do we know anything more about Gaikai? With my PS3 dead, I am debating whether to fix it or just wait for the streaming service. Hate the idea of rebuying games I own though. Kind of hoping they have a better way to handle it than that.

$199. The only catch is it only has 12gb storage. You have to buy a $10 bracket to put your own HDD into it. No big deal though. None of the PS3 bundles have anything I want or only have games I already own. This saves me $60 bucks.

I still cant decide.

I wish I knew which was the better gaming system.

I am scared that the xbone is going to have the RROD problem again, and didn't like that they were having to slow it down to keep it from running too hot. Yet, all I have played on the 360 are games like Fable, kingdoms of amalur, Cod, Halo, stuff like that.

No that report was never confirmed. But Microsoft has said that they increased the clock speed on their GPU since E3, from 800MHz to 853MHz
