I don't think that's right. He played extensively in 2010 and 2011. As a transfer, he has to sit out a year (counts against his eligibility) and then he gets one more year.

I don't think he gets to use a redshirt during the year he has. To sit out, but I'm not positive.

Two "five star" QB's going to Kansas in one day? Let's make Charlie Weis the Chiefs GM. He might draft us a couple of first round QB's...

Heaps threw for 1452 yards, 9 TDs, and 8 INTs this year. We've already got a guy like that on the Chiefs, and his name is Matt Cassel.

He can absolutely use his redshirt to preserve his eligibility during the transfer year.

Heaps is a hell of a get.

Whine all you want about Mizzou guys grousing, but Crist is just not a good quarterback.

Heaps, OTOH, can absolutely be a big difference maker for you guys.

As to the 'transfer' rule; I don't believe it actually burns a year of eligibility unless you've already redshirted. The reason being that it would make the '4 in 5' rule impossible. You have 5 years to complete your 4 years of eligibility. If you redshirt, then the 'transfer' year also burns a year of eligiblity by creating an additional 'dead' year in those 5, so you only play for 3.

The only exceptions are for medical reasons when they sometimes grant that 6th year to complete 4.

If he hasn't redshirted, he can sit out the year and still knock out 4 years in 5. At least I'm pretty sure that's the case.

He gets to come in and learn from 3-time Heisman winner, Ron Pawlus.

Heaps, 6 feet 1, 200 pounds, will sit out the 2012 season per NCAA transfer rules and will then have two years of eligibility left. He is the second quarterback to announce his intentions to transfer to Kansas after former Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist announced his decision on Twitter earlier in the day.

After leading Skyline to three state championships and compiling a 40-2 record as a high-school quarterback, Heaps was rated by many as the top quarterback prospect in the nation. He graduated early so he could play spring football, and started the final 10 games as a freshman at BYU and the first five in 2011.

In 2010 Heaps took over as the starter in after Riley Nelson suffered a shoulder injury. The Cougars won four of their last five regular-season games and the New Mexico Bowl. Heaps was the MVP.

He set BYU freshman records for passing yards (2,316), attempts (383), completions (219), passing touchdowns (15), wins (six), games started (10) and games played (13).

He was the Cougars' starting quarterback to open the 2011 season, throwing for 1,452 yards, nine touchdowns and eight interceptions in nine games. However, he struggled early in the year and lost his starting job after Nelson led a late comeback against Utah State.
