Jim Morrison at Florida State
When I went to St. Petersburg Jr. College in '68 - '69 I remember Jim Morrison was listed in the school handbook as a famous alumni. I think he attended one year around 1961 when he stayed at his grandparents in Clearwater. He also hung out a coffee house in Pinellas Park called Beau Arts. I'm on the St. Pete Facebook page and a lot of people remember him from hanging out there.

After going to SPJC he went to Florida State in Tallahassee and I found some interesting media. He appeared in a school promo video and had one arrest also.



Here's a high school photo, he graduated from a school in Alexandria Virginia just outside DC.



From his time at FSU, I don't know the crime.

The Doors never did anything for me. I was not a big fan of most of the hippie music that arose from the Vietnam War with the exception of Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Hippie music was like, Jefferson Airplane and It's A Beautiful Day.

The Doors were darker. They had that Dionysian vibe, that excess, that danger. Jim really was a poet, and the closest thing in my lifetime that ever really compared, for me, was Jane's Addiction. They had that same semblance of Dionysian excess and darkness juxtaposed with art and beauty.

The Doors scared hippies. The hippies wanted Quicksilver Messenger Service, they wanted Santana.
