*.* 2013 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2013! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

**From the 2012 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

I think it's definitely possible for non noobs. No doubt diet, training & rest would need to be 100% in check, as well as having upper tier genetics. Maybe on some of that 'cell tech' also.

But has to be grape flavor.

I tried kettle bells for the first time last night. Holy shit, I think I'm in love! I'm starting out with the basic two handed low swing (I think). The one where you squat, swing the bell between your legs and lift as you stand up.

What do you guys recommend? Do you do so many reps, or do you time yourself?

I'm using the 20 lb to start off with. I tried the 35 lb one, but it felt a little too uncomfortable for now. I'm going for weight loss at this point, so lighter weight with higher reps?

I'm working out three times per week (MWF). On Monday and Friday, I'm doing all cardio. This includes time on the eliptical, the bike, and the treadmill. On Wednesday, I warm up with 15 minutes on the eliptical, and then I do some stuff on the weight machines, mostly for my arms (want to lose the arm flab) along with some glute extensions. Then I cool down for about 10 mins on the treadmill.

Along with keeping a food journal, will this workout routine help? In trying kettle bells, and finding that I really like them, I'm thinking of replacing my bike time on Mondays and Fridays with kettle bell time. Will that be okay?

You're not going to lose arm flab by working your arms.

You do that by dieting.

I'm glad you're lifting tho.

Are you doing this with someone who knows how to do it? Your description of a kettlebell swing (squat, lift) makes me think you're doing it wrong.

Also, light weight does not equal weight loss. Don't be afraid of heavy weight, but make sure you're doing your swings with good form.

Here's what I'm doing, only I don't bend over that much. I squat a little more than I bend over.

The girl I go and workout with wants to go over to the free weight side of the gym, and she's trying to talk me into going with her. We walked over there last night, but there were so many built guys over there that I was super intimidated. They look at you like, "What are you doing in here?" That, coupled with the fact that I have no clue how to do anything over there, made me immediately go back to the safe side of the gym. My area has kettle bells, the ropes, body balls (as I call them), and steps in one area, the weight machines, and a bunch of different cardio equipment. I like my side of the gym.

Anyone done any of the combine drills?

My bench press record is 8 reps at 220lb, best 40 time 4.7s (I'm about 180lb). Haven't tried any of the jumping or shuttles...

You'll actually find several threads here where everyone list their 40 time, 225 reps, and penor size. I believe the average CP member came in at about a 4.4/40, 25 reps @ 225, and 10 inches flaccid.

Ah sorry, not seen those threads. My records are from a couple of years ago but 100% true. I'm actually lighter now but can still BP 220lb about 5 times. Knees are shot so have given up most running so I guess my 40 time would be way down by now.

P.S. my cock is average

Gotta quit being a pussy when it comes to the gym. 95% of those super buff guys are proud of you for trying. They know what it takes to get to the gym.
