Jon Gruden

When Jon Gruden took the job I was pretty high on Carr. I told many people “I hate the Raiders but I really like Carr”. After watching Hard Knocks I still like Carr as a person. That said....

If Gruden knew he was signing up for a job in Mahomes division before hand would he have taken this job? I think captain hindsight has his ass in the booth.

“Completely” is a strong statement. But he did take a team largely built by Tony Dungy that was pretty much handed to him.

What does that say about Tony Dungy?

Gruden's going to be just fine.

He knows what he's doing. He can win with Carr. They draft well next year they are going to be good.

If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have a merry Christmas.

Gruden has a career .517 winning percentage. Whoopdee-freaking-do.

Highly. Average.

Which is fine by me.

Hopefully they might be able to keep more talented teams out of the playoffs, Texans, Colts, or Ravens. Who knows.

Eh maybe. I think he’s an OK playcaller. I don’t think he knows what he’s doing.

Jon Gruden is going to turn the Raiders around. How far they get depends a lot on Carr's development. But next year the Raiders will be better than they've been this year.

And IMO he's play-calling exactly how he should with Carr as his QB. The more pass attempts Carr has to make in a game, the more likely that he makes mistakes. That's been his MO in his career. Oh look, they draft Josh Jacobs and he becomes the driving force on that team. They surround Carr with a huge OL, that can run block. Hmm, Carr only has to throw about 20-25 times in a game. Oh, and look, another physical, run-stopping defense.

Gruden's Raiders will be relevant by the end of next year.

As long as they have Carr...they wont. He is what he is at this point...he's not going to become some stellar franchise QB. He's serviceable with a good game every 5 or 6....kind of like Cousins.

Jacobs was a good pick...that was Maylock's choice.

Don't forget the Chargers were playing without their starting LT & RT.

They both looked like average division teams playing each other...

Never said Carr was going to become a great QB. In fact, I've gone on the record several times on the forum, as well as in real life, for the last 3-4 years that he's not the answer at QB. He's kind of a more athletic Alex Smith clone, or could be. But he has mental farts during games that have plagued him since entering the NFL that don't seem to be going away. However, Gruden has minimized a lot of these through his play-calling/designs. And that'll continue going forward.

But the Raiders will be relevant next year. Not great, and certainly not a real challenge for the Chiefs in 2020, but they'll be in the national conversation next year as a real football team, not the joke they've been for more than a decade. IF they draft well and increase their depth across the board. Aside from depth issues, their real problem going forward is Derek Carr. Can they succeed into the playoffs with him behind center? I think it's possible, but unlikely. I think they'll be forced to go QB shopping at the end of next year.

I said before the season...keep an eye on the Raiders. They have a move to Vegas with a shiny new stadium. Almost every team with a new stadium somehow magically overachieves the year before they move...

*cough cough*

Raiders next 2 games are against teams with one win...combined. They are in line to be sitting at 7-4.

I'm a prophet... not really...I just know Goodell is a snake and recognize his manipulative "profit" patterns.

Ask yourself...was there anything about the Raiders that said 7-4/potential play-off team before the season started? That would be a "hell no"...

Year after year this stuff happens, and year after year people don't question it. I can almost hear Jim Ross in the background...
