1. Entire French meal from apps to dessert at Fleur de Lys in San Francisco cooked and the appetizer of wild morel, shitake, and wood ear mushrooms in a light cream sauce cooked in a copper pot personally presented by Hubert Keller to me and the other diners that night.
2. 16 oz filet mignon cooked to perfection with a side of hash browns done in a cast iron skillet and started with an app of 3 HUGE tuna sashimi pieces that had no cartilage in the entire fish along with a salad of heirloom tomatoes and burrata cheese at The Old Homestead in the Borgata in Atlantic City 3. Filet Mignon Tips in lime tequila sauce over penne pasta at Sweetwater Grill in Sterling VA. They also have the BEST brined grilled pork chops. 4. Best St Louis ribs EVER at Dixie Bones in Woodbridge VA 5. Dim Sum at Yank Sing in San Francisco 6. Sushi boat with unlimited fantastic sushi in Tai Koo Shing Plaza in Hong Kong 7. Mahi Mahi at Mama's Fish House in Maui HI 8. Three House Pasta, gnocchi, Lasagne, and buccatini all in different sauces at a restaurant in Bologna Italy with Darryl Dawkins his 2nd wife and my friend Brian. 9. Variety of White and Red Pizzas at Pizzeria Bianco here in Phoenix 10. One 1/2 Pastrami w swiss on rye and 1/2 corned beef with swiss on rye at Katz's (you go with another person and each orders one sandwich and swap halves) 11. Best fried calamari ever at Ye Limehouse on the corner of Mott and Bayard in Little Italy in Manhattan NYC-(it's long gone now and turned into part of Chinatown) 12. Rack of lamb numerous times at Charlie Brown's in Lakewood NJ- an unlikely restaurant in an unlikely place with an incredible meal and it was both great and HUGE for the price, about 8-9 chops

My parents were friends with this doctor from Germany and his wife couldn't speak a word of English. Well they invited us over for supper and the food was phenomenal in particularly the homemade German bread she made. I've never had anything like it before or since but it just stuck out to me as simply amazing.

The night I got engaged to my wife, we went to Benny's Chop House in Chicago. The dry-aged, prime, cowboy ribeye is the singular best piece of meat I've had in my entire life.

I typically like my steak medium well, but the best steak I ever had was a medium rare steak with peppercorn sauce in Monschau, Germany -- a charming, tiny vacation town in the Eifel region. Lots of people get married in Monschau due to the lofty charm quotient. Who would think I would have to go to rural Germany for the best stake I have ever had in my life? Isn't life strange? I can't mention Monschau without posting a couple of pix. |
