If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

I don't think it is an "all in" situation, per se. That philosophy and term are being drummed up by the fans disappointed in the Smith acquisition. Reid and Dorsey got the best QB they could and are building around what they have, it can be frustrating but it is the reality of this off season. The Broncos are in an all in situation.

I would say Dorsey and Reid got the safest player they could.

Building around a QB who is a manager instead of someone who actually carries the team is very, very difficult. It leaves no room for error on all other facets of the team.

It's the combo of the QB situation. They went with Alice and Chase(rather than a rookie) and also signed a lot of vets on the open market. The #1 pick is a play now and play well type of guy since he is getting to play RT. They brought back Bowe. No, no I'm pretty sure it's a win now situation.

I'm not sure why people don't get this.

I've seen enough band-aid attempts in the past 20 years.
What gives you the idea that Clark ONLY wants to win 6 games-LOL. I think he has down Everything possible to upgrade this team in every single way. We had the best off season of any team.

I think if you look at Andy's history and the moves they have made- you can see what kind of team they are going with. Running game and defense wins championships and this team will have both.

We don't need a gunslinger throwing long low % bombs- we need to control the clock and consistently put up points with every drive.

To a point, you need to find SOME optimism, sure. Again, some of you seem to have a real problem finding some in-between ground between the extremes. No one is demanding you swallow every F/O decision as if it will be golden... but some like myself are wanting to see fans of a team take the mature and wait-and-see approach, instead of the endless .

We have a winner. 42.3% of plays w/ at least 8 men in box. League average is 23.3% @MarkusEricsson: @PFF Gore?

Little troubling, but it was in a totally different offense we will ahve in KC.
There are a couple of reasons to put 8 men in the box. You might do it because you don't respect the QB. Or you might be forced to do it if you can't stop the run with 7. San Francisco has a pretty powerful run blocking line.

According to PFF, San Francisco had the #1 and #2 run blocking tackles in the league. They had the #3 and #5 run blocking guards. And the weak link was the Branden Albert of centers at #10.

I understand, but Alex Smith is a known commodity. We aren't talking a inexperienced backup or rookie. He has a long body of work to form opinions on.

I am very glad that SF didn't apply this mindset to then Tampa Bay's Steve Young, eh?

The reason Alex has "lasted" so long in regards to being a starter are simple. Everyone who followed his journey closely knows very well that he was given horseshit and asked to make Filet mignon with it. When conditions finally improved around Alex, hey what do you know? So did he.

The team doesn't need a rebuild like it did when Herm took over. And this isn't a band aid approach. It's time to start winning. The window is opening, not closing.

Exactly, we have the pieces in place but lacked Any Leadership whatsover. We have that now and have upgraded every position on the team.

Steve Young played 19 games for TB as a rookie and 2nd year player and than was brought in as a backup for 4 years. I'm not seeing how that's similar to a 29 year old with 80 starts and brought in to be the starting QB?

Hey, you know what? When Alex cut his attempts from 30 to 20 a game his QB rating started going up and he quit throwing so many picks since he was only throwing 2/3 of the time.

But yes. You're right Alex is a guy that needs to have a dominate offensive line and denfense to be servicable at QB. I will give you that one.
