Wow. I always lived somewhat near the campus, even in the couple of years that I worked there after graduating. I hope everyone there is OK.

They just showed some footage of the Kirksville damage on Weather Channel. It's pretty damned bad.

I just was able to log on here. SIrens had been going off here since 6:30 for around 90 minutes. Thankfully it went southeast of us and through Bourbon County near Fort Scott. The police scanner was picking up spotter info as they were chasing a tornado down near Uniontown and 54 highway a few hours ago.

About a month ago, a massive tornado struck Murfreesboro (kind of a suburb-type city outside Nashville) and destroyed dozens upon dozens of homes and businesses. I mean, just absolutely demolished a large part of town. Houses blown away down to the foundation. Cars carried for thousands of feet and thrown into homes. Large trees uprooted and spun in the air to come smashing down through roofs. Your basic disaster of biblical proportions with fire and brimstone raining down from the skies. Rivers and seas boiling. Darkness, earthquakes, volcanoes. Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together ... mass hysteria. And last I heard, there were only two deaths and some relatively minor injuries. The point being that, if you surveyed the destruction in the aftermath, you would have easily assumed that many, many dozens of persons would have died. It looked that bad. Tornadoes are very strange things. FAX |
