Game of Thrones Thread

Feel free to discuss any future speculation, theories. Anything from the books is fair game to post. Everything that has been broadcast on TV or from HBO. No spoilers needed.

  1. If you watched or know the events that will take place in a unaired episode that has not been broadcast on HBO, you must put all the information and comments in a spoiler tag.
  2. Do not post any media of any kind involving actual content from unaired episodes without being in a spoiler. The only exception to the spoiler rule is content publicly posted from HBO and or the GOT actor themselves. Teasers, promos, trailers etc.

Any person unable to follow the spoiler rules will be banned from this thread. 14 days for first offense. Perm banned from the thread for a 2nd offense.

New 'Game of Thrones' series in development at HBO

A spinoff -- or possibly spin-offs, plural, or prequels or sequels -- of the immensely popular HBO drama is in the works.
The network said in a statement Thursday that it has closed deals with four writers to "explore different time periods of George R. R. Martin's vast and rich universe."
"There is no set timetable for these projects," the network said. "We'll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in."
The network also said that Martin, the creator and author of the books that the series is based on, would also be involved in writing scripts.

HBO added that the creators and showrunners of the main series, D. B. Weiss and David Benioff, are continuing to work on finishing the upcoming seventh season of "Game of Thrones" and are "in the midst of writing and preparing for the eighth and final season" but would be attached, along with Martin, as executive producers.
"We will support them as they take a much deserved break from writing about Westeros once the final season is complete," the network said.

Plans are still far from final, and it's possible that there could be multiple new shows -- or none at all. But adding something to the "Game of Thrones" franchise is a logical next step for HBO; it's one of the most talked-about shows on TV, and arguably the crown jewel of the cable network's lineup.

Some sort of continuation of the franchise has been talked about for a long time. Casey Bloys, HBO's programming chief, was asked about it at July's Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles.
"It's not something I'm opposed to, but of course it has to make sense creatively," Bloys said at the time.

Maybe he handed it over to HBO to have them finish his story for him. It grows more and more plausible each month.

"Here's my overall game plan. I'll finish, don't worry..."

I doubt if I'll even bother to read the last two at this point. The series peaked with three and the last two were bloated and overwrought. I'd also bet money that he doesn't live long enough to finish seven, and hell he may never finish six.

At this point I wish I'd never even read the books. It was so refreshing to finally not know what was coming, even though season six did become a bit predictable.

The Jon Snow reveal forgave all sins that Season 6 had committed for me.

That was the first time a TV show ever brought me to tears. Everything about that scene, from the set-up, the acting, the score, and the sheer weight of that moment was perfectly executed. Hell, that whole episode was a masterpiece. After George's last two labyrinths in ASOIAF, I'd legitimately be surprised if his Winds of Winter could match it. I feel your frustration with GRRM, at this point its become comical.

HBO needs to back up the Brinks truck to get Sappo back for Season 8. He elevated the show to a new level with the final two episodes of the last season (and arguably with Hardhome as well).

This, this, and this. The last couple of episodes to season 6 was some of the best (and most satisfyingly awesome) television i've ever witnessed.

The first season was nearly perfect. Then there was a lull.

They broke out of that lull with a vengeance with the Mountain and the Viper.

Hardhome was great

But Battle of the Bastards might be the best thing I've ever seen televised.

The very best GoT has had to offer, among a slew of great scenes....

And BL might be right - that is some of the finest filmwork I've seen, TV or movie.

I saw BoB / WoW before the Night Manager and I think the latter beats the former.

Yeah. That was ****ing ridiculously high quality for television. I'm not even sure what you could stack up against it.
