Just like we could totally sit at the end of the 2nd round last year and hope that a DE was going to fall to us.....until they all went well before our pick.

“Why would Spags want Will McDonald?”

Well we were at his pro day. Due diligence? They also looked at Nolan Smith (238 lbs), Lonnie Phelps (244 lbs) and BJ Goodson (242 lbs). We’ve looked at quite a few undersized edge rushers.

As far as I can tell, Spags has his Strahan prototype (Jones), he has his Tuck prototype (Omenihu) and now he’s looking for his Umenyiora speed rusher.

I like Will McDonald, but he's 20 pounds lighter than Osi was. And saying "well he's tall, he can add 20 lbs of good weight' is seeing what you want to see. It's NOT easy to add 20 lbs of weight without losing your athleticism. Ask Karlaftis how that went for him at Purdue.

And yes, the Chiefs would almost certainly put him to use, but how can McDonald be some no-brainer selection when there's a CLEAR red flag here? He is not an NFL starting DE right now. Yet that's something you'll dismiss and say 'we'd have to take him if he's there' while saying that Addison wouldn't be on your board in the first because he didn't time well?

Why wouldn't Chenal be used as a pass rusher? It was one of his strengths in college. In fact, I'm pretty sure I read a report before the draft that listed him as a better pass-rusher than TJ Watt.

Nobody has been screaming Will McDonald at 31 louder than me, but I'm not taking him over any of the top 4 WRs.

I still don't understand all that.

He was an INTERIOR rusher in college. I looked at all his sacks and I think about 3/4 of them came on an interior blitz. And sometimes they were all but lining him up at DT.

He's never demonstrated anything that I saw in college or the pros to say he's an edge rusher with any kind of genuine pass rush moves. He was just a guided missile they sent on blitzes up the gut.

I just feel like anybody acting like he could be some sort of wide 9 blitzer is doing some box score scouting.

Weird.

Most of what I saw was him getting QBs on the ground before the LOS in the flat after they escaped the pocket and stalled.

I’ll have to re-watch.

If we made a move, and could take Johnston or Smith-Njigba, who would you prefer?

Smith-Njigba played with Olave and Wilson, and looked better than both the few times I watched Ohio State when they were all on the team together.

But, I have always wanted a big receiver, especially since Andy seems to be stuck on smaller receivers. I know that technically MVS is 6'4" but he is the smallest looking 6'4" receiver I can ever remember. Johnston is bigger than Smith-Njigba by 3-ish inches, but Smith-Njigba seemed to be a little more polished route runner.

So, read on Arrowhead Addict (or something like that) earlier to day that somehow Veach played with the numbers and we actually have a little over $5 million in cap space, not $2 million.

You are correct.

The $2M is effective cap space. Effective Cap Space = The cap space a team will have after signing at least 51 players and its projected rookie class to its roster.

Trades of draft picks up or down affects this.

Overthecap.com says we actually have $4,744,696 of space.

Also, KC always keeps a few million of cap space to use during the season.

I assume we will see some additional cap movement from Brett Veach. Maybe a new contract for Chris Jones that reduces his $28,291,668 2023 cap hit?

An article I skimmed a few days ago in either AA or AP mentioned that a restructure of CJ's contract could give Veach several more millions to work with if necessary. Close to or over $10 million of extra space, iirc. Again, I don't know squat about how the cap works, but I figure those guys would have to know a lot more than me about it to write about it.

EDIT: the author did not say that any restructure of CJ's contract was in the works, no rumors, nothing. He only said that it was possible.

The Seahawks withdrew the RFA tender of safety Ryan Neal. I would like to see him end up in KC.
