Tickets, must do’s, etc

Ok,

So after taking the fam to many road games it’s time to let them experience Arrowhead. I haven’t been to a home game in 20+ years.
It’ll be 5 of us, 2 adults 3 kids. Dates to be determined after schedule is released but starting the plannin now, so shoot me your best recommendations on must sees and ways to get some great discounts on attractions/tickets etc. Every penny helps.
Figure a 5-7 day trip and if possible grab a Royals game in the same trip.

The Negro Leagues Baseball Museum is always a must see. https://nlbm.com/

Also if you're into Jazz, the museum is also right next to the NLBM. https://americanjazzmuseum.org/

If you're into history, WW1 museum is also good to go. https://www.theworldwar.org/

If you're going to overnight in Seattle, Cedarbrook lodge is a great place to stay. You won't even feel like you're near the airport. Actually, you won't even really feel like you're in a city at all. Gorgeous location and shuttle to/from the airport. If you do it, book early because prices can fluctuate wildly. At times, they are cheaper than the DoubleTree by the airport and at times, they are notably more expensive. Nice thing about hotel reservations is that they are generally easy to change or cancel. Pro tip: if you have to cancel a hotel reservation too close to your check-in time, go on-line and change the reservation to a month later. Go back the next day and cancel the reservation without penalty.

Alaska Air usually announces their PFD sale in August so you might well be able to get a good rate for flights in September. I'm presuming like all good Alaskans you'll have the Alaska Air card so you can get a companion fare for pretty cheap. And as summer heats up, see what Delta can offer out of Juneau or the Delta/Alaska price war. There is usually 1 flight a day from Seattle to KC on Alaska Air and it leaves in the morning, usually between about 8:30 and 10 so I would guess you are likely to spend the night in Seattle on the outbound leg. Maybe return as well. Good news, though: Alaska Air just started service alcohol again after they restricted it to beer and wine because of Covid.

Most of my 'must sees' were from my childhood but the Negro Leagues museum is worth a visit. Never made the WWI Museum, although it's on my list one of these years. I also want to go back through the Nelson Atkins gallery and see Thomas Hart Benton paintings and their Oriental section.

For hotel rooms with that many people, consider a suites hotel like Hampton or Embassy suites for a bit more room and usable space or some type of extended stay hotel. We actually got a really good rate at the Sheraton Suites on the Plaza a few years ago. Wound up only $5-10 dollars more a night than an Embassy Suites or Hampton Suites out in the suburbs. We were on the Plaza for meals and things to do. I figured the minimal extra cost offset the time and gas spent in the car. As I've said, I've found the earlier you make your hotel reservations, the better deal you can get and hotels are the easiest to change.

If you're not familiar with it, parking at Arrowhead can be a PITA. Consider getting an Uber. There's a way to get that set up when you buy tickets. You'll likely have to figure out parking when you get your tickets. Go to the arrowhead section on chiefs.com to figure out parking before you get tickets otherwise you'll have a window pop up saying, "Would you like to buy parking?" and then "Where do you want to park?" all the while the counter is counting down on the tickets you've reserved. So you might want to get that set up prior to ordering tickets.

Consider the stadium tour if you're traveling all that way. It's on my list of things I need to do but haven't been able to set it up yet. But several CPers have recommended it to me when I've asked similar questions.

I would say get there earlier than you might think. Walking through the parking lot is a hoot and when you tell people you've come down from Alaska, you will be invited to sample all sorts of BBQ and beer. Or just find someone from CP who's having a tailgate and swing by. I did it to Lzen at the AFCCG a couple of years ago and he and his friends and family were exceptionally accommodating to my son and me and I thank him again for his hospitality. Most people will recognize how far away you traveled and will be exceedingly gracious and hospitable.

You'll have a great time and it will be a treasured memory for your family for years.

Try hard to take the stadium tour https://www.chiefs.com/stadium/tours

would recommend hitting JoesKC #3 or Q39 south. I recommend those locations as they will probably be easier to get in and out of with less of a wait than the original locations. Jack Stack is pretty solid option as well would recommend the freight house or martin city location.

The WWI museum is pretty cool. Not sure where you will be staying but Crown Center area might be a good place. Close to union station and a few other things like the toy train that runs around town.

*edit* looks like the stadium tour doesn't have the hall of honor or the locker room. It's still kinda cool you probably get to see the press box and what not but hopefully construction is done and covid ****s off before next season where you might be able to actually take the full tour

Would add that if you hit the Freight House, its a cool overhead walking bridge across the tracks into Union Station. My kid got a kick out of being on the bridge as an engine passes under him, it was cool experience.

I'd echo the Negro League and Jazz Museums are worth the effort, especially since they're together. The WWI museum is pretty cool. I'm not sure if you can go to the top of Liberty Memorial any nore or not, but the view is spectacular. If you have kids with you, you might want to look at satying at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Kansas side. There's a casino across the street and a shopping center just to the west. Sporting KC's stadium is within walking distance if you're into that kind of football. https://www.greatwolf.com/kansas-city
