Where does Simone Biles rank?

Where does Simone Biles rank among the best American athletes ever? She’s literally reset the bar for the entire sport. Mahomes level except she’s done it for over a decade and against the world. Who is better? She has multiple routines named after her. Largest margin of victory. She jumps like 12 feet over routine. The oldest to win the all around in 72 years. I don’t know how to do polls, but even if I did what choices would he in the poll? I have two daughters in gymnastics and they both want to be her (obviously not relevant to my question but it’s nice as a dad to see them strive to beat her).

That's what the uninformed think...there will be someone new in 4 years. SB won the world championships in 2013. There has been no, "wait for 4 years and there will be someone else." Those who follow the sport know that if SB is competing, there no one waiting in the wings to take her title. That's been true for 11 years, and will continue as long as SB competes.

Shirley, you understand the difference between a phobia and clinical depression. If a gymnast is afraid of being a gymnast then they don't have to be a gymnast anymore. They can literally not do those things. When one is clinically depressed they can't escape it. And even phobias can cross over to a point to be truly unhealthy like someone who's agoraphobic, but let's not act like Simone biles has to be a gymnast. She doesn't.

It can also be both. There’s a real interesting 30 for 30 where they talk about Mackey sasser, the Mets catcher who couldn’t throw the ball back to the pitcher. It turns out that it was a mental block and resolving past trauma helped him out. In Biles’ case she was thinking too much. I’ve experienced that in high school ball where you’re thinking about that throw to first or the free throw instead of just shooting. Someone asked if the yips were the right word and I think it is, but this is the way the word should be used.

I don’t know that this played any part but keep in mind that as this was going on, the Nassar abuse shit was going down too. I’m sure that was in her head at the time too and who can blame her for being traumatized from that monster

Twisties is a symptom of mental health issues such as stress and anxiety. You're being extremely narrow in your definition of what constitutes mental health.

So, a phobia is just a loss of focus, now? You're kind of moving the goalposts here, bud. First it was 'she just lost focus, that's not a mental health thing,' and now it's 'there's a difference between a phobia and clinical depression.' Both of which are mental health issues, last I checked.

So, let's have you narrow your argument down to either your original assertion, or you can admit you made a mistake/moved the goalposts, and we just move on from there.

Regardless of why, she had to withdraw from the Super Bowl and when you are talking about the best of the best across all sports, that’s a hair that is fairly split and is within reason to factor in to the calculus of who is the greatest.

I didn't move anything. I didn't say a phobia is a loss of focus. However, it stands to reason that if one has a goal that a phobia would contribute to a loss of focus toward that goal. Like I said, Biles being unable to compete isn't a serious "mental health" issue when she can just decide to not be a gymnast anymore compared to a chemical imbalance in the brain.

I'm glade she got help 4 years ago and was able to compete at this Olympics at such a high level.

What just REALLY bothers me is if the reports are correct, she knew it was a very high chance of dropping out and had been dealing with the metal aspect for awhile. Instead of dropping out allowing another person to take her place thus helping the TEAM, she waited until it was to late for a replacement and basicaaly screwed over the USA team.
