I don't think the money is that crazy, Darvish has pitched well. The biggest worry I'd have is his health. Last year was really his first fully healthy season in 4 years.

Valid concern, but they couldnt just sit back and let the Brewers continue to improve while they made minor tweaks to their roster. They needed an ace, assuming Lester continues his downward spiral from last year, and they got the best one available at below market value.

They also dont have to surrender a pick for Darvish and will get one back when Arrieta signs.

He made 31 starts, so he couldn't have had more than one 10-day DL stint.

His injury timing in 2014 wiped out 2015 and part of 2016, but that TJ is the only significant injury in his career.

It's a deal that could be rough on the back end, but the money and terms are much friendlier than I think many expected.

Also: if Darvish only got 21/year... hard to see Hosmer actually getting that much a year on a long term deal.

That is a tall order... I imagine we'll see them at some point this season. I'd think Zim has the best shot of breaking camp as our bull pen is a mess.

Problem is, if they all make the roster, it likely means the roster sucks.

And, if Zimmer makes it, odds are he'll be off it, and onto the DL, by the end of April.

And WTF is Hosmer doing at this point? Waking up every day hoping the Royals or Padres caved and are willing to give him 8 or 9 years?
Maybe he'll get lucky and some All-Star first baseman on a contender will tear an ACL the first week of spring training and the team will be desperate for a replacement.
