The 5 car has a long history, it was Hendrick's first, in the 80's with Geoff Bodine. DW's #17 Tide Ride was essentially the 5 car renumbered. Terry Labonte won a title in it too, in '96. I have too many useless facts in my head. Make it stop.

If I recall correctly Terry Lebonte's title was pretty much points racing from starts to finish. I don't remember how many races he won, but I am guessing it wasn't many.

Good guess. Two wins. 21 top fives in 31 races, though. That's some serious points racing.

I had to look that up.

See, now there's where I'm wrong. I thought Waltrip's # 17, from around '88 or '89, was essentially the 5 car. Urp.

Nope the 17, 25 and 5 all ran at the same time for a couple of years. After the 24 and then the 48 showed up the 5 and 25 were pushed to the background and weren't given the same sort of treatment those 2 were.

Hey, I have something in common with Kurt Busch.

Neither of us will be going to Pocono this week.

rasowaff,

Denny Hamlin is a great driver - keep your eye on #11.

He also has the best paint schemes!

I've read:

With the smoothness of the repaved track, speeds having increased dramatically - 200-215 mph going into the corner. They have a lot of grip. Drafting also will come into play down the straightaway.

This year they're back on the bottom at Pocono.

CRASH - J.J. Yelley hammers the wall.

Edit: With the new repaved track at Pocono, this is going to a crashfest.

Now, they're crashing on pit road ...
