Agreed. What the announcers always call his amazing "patience" might not work so well when you're behind a completely mediocre OL.

The whole structure with the Jets is soooo ****ed up. The coach and gm don’t have meetings together. They meet separately with the owner lol what successful franchise is run like that? None. That’s why a lot of players and coaches refuse to come to the Jets. Chris Johnson was the guy that hired Gase, not mcaggnan. They’re a ****ing joke. They stepped in shit with Darnold though. He’s gonna be good.
Yeah, Darnold looks like the real deal. Wouldn't be the first promising QB to break behind the pressure (and physical beating) of being behind a bad OLIne and with insufficient talent around him. A quarterback is the engine of a team's offense, but if the wheels suck and you're trying to run on low-grade fuel, your engine won't much matter...

They were planning on running him into the ground then releasing him this year. If he were seriously injured...he would be screwed.

He sat out, stayed healthy and got $30+ million GUARANTEED. $30 million > $10 million.

Bell did what he had to do...and it payed off.

Everyone here understands that Bell could've signed the FRANCHISE TAG and played for a GUARANTEED $14.5 million, right?

$10 million is the immediate guaranteed portion of the long term contract the Steelers offered. It is NOT the guaranteed amount on the franchise tag that he could've played for.

I don't think many are arguing that the long term Steelers contract was the way to go. It was take the franchise tag, play under that, collect the $14.5 million, THEN go into free agency.

So I was 100% right and got a week ban for it.......

He flushed 5.5 million down the toilet.

A review of Bell's contract with the Jets shows he'll be making less money than what he could have had in Pittsburgh. He will make $14.5 million in the first year, including an $8 million signing bonus. His two-year payout is $26 million. The three-year payout is $39.5 million, $5.5 million shy of what he would've made with the Steelers.

The market for Bell wasn't as robust as many expected. In the end, it came down to the Jets and San Francisco 49ers. His $13.1 million-per-year average ranks second among running backs, behind Todd Gurley II ($14.4 million).

It's like some people don't understand the logic behind this. Had he played last year and gotten injured, touched the ball a ton or really shown any decline..the whole narrative would have been that he's done and then no one would pay him.

You can say he left 5 mill on the table but what if playing for 14 only got him like 5 mill this year instead of the 35? Cause that could have easily happened, dude isn't a QB he plays the position that is the easiest to replace he did his best to protect himself.

He saw Gurleys money and thought he could do the same. Rams made a blunder that deal.

Doubt Bell would do much with our OL - or any other not up to par with the steelers'.
That being said I agree with PaChiefsGuy a REALLY GOOD RB (such as the one we released), helps take some pressure off of QB's.
I can see Pat running for life most of the season without such RB and behind our OL. Hope he has good legs and never gets tired...
