What do you think of RV relocation deals?

I'm kind of intrigued by this. Ten bucks a night to drive a new RV from Chicago to Los Angeles.

https://www.cruiseamerica.com/rv-ren...elocation-deal

What do you think the fully loaded costs would be? How many nights would it take? You'd have to fly to Chicago and then from LA. It would be a lot of gas, and of course some nights at campgrounds. You'd have some food costs, but hey, you're in an RV so that's not much. I'd need to buy good insurance since I've never driven something like this before. Would it be a cost-efficient vacation or a death march of a road trip?

Is it a motor home or trailer?

But does it really cost $10 a night?

What about fuel and insurance? Maybe relegated to truck stops to spend the night? **** that.

Yeah, $10 is just the vehicle rental. You'll have more costs for camping, fuel, insurance, etc. But hey, it's $10 a night for the vehicle, which seems pretty good.

That looks like a deal to me. Nice RV, too.

My neighbor had a motor home and depending on where you stay overnight hookup rates can vary wildly. Some can be pretty pricey.

It looks like they give plenty of time, so I'd say 7-10 days would be a good pace (you could probably do it in 4). I guess it depends which route you take and what you'd like to see.

I've been from SW MO to Acapulco in a motorhome, to Canada in a motorhome. I've been to the state of Washington through Oregon and California and back to SW MO in a motorhome. It was great because I was a kid and my dad was driving. He grew up on the farm and was a tank commander in the Korean War. He learned to fly at 14. It wasn't no thing to him. My wife wants a motorhome to travel and live in. I'm like "that's great who's driving us"?

Chicago to LA. 2100 miles, 8 miles per gallon avg. 263 gallons. Let's just say you get average of $3.25 per gallon. It will probably be higher but nonetheless.. . $855. Insurance?... 40-50 per day? Let's just say $1000 avg for every 4 days. That sound reasonable?

Let's see. $7500 for the month? Is that right?

Sheesh. It's just a camper on wheels, man.

I don't think it would take a month. Two weeks means that you're driving on average 150 miles a day, or 2.5 hours. That's pretty leisurely. Maybe you drive five hours once in a while so you can spend a couple of nights somewhere.

So then you've got...

14 days of rental = $140
263 gallons of gas at $3.70 per gallon (which I think is more likely) = $970
Insurance at $20 per day per their website = $280
Campsite at $40 per night per some random website = $560

That's $1,950 for a two-week road trip. Am I missing anything?

With these assumptions, a three week trip (100 miles per day) would be $2,400, and a four-week trip (75 miles per day) would be $2,900.

I drove a big U-Haul truck across the country once, probably about the size of those 30' RVs. Driving something that size was not an enjoyable experience to me, and it got about 10 miles per gallon.

It could be a good deal if you were hankering for a road trip and planning to rent an RV. I’d plan my preferred trip assuming I’m renting an RV at full market. Then plan out a similar trip under the conditions of this outfit. Then it becomes a simple matter of picking your preferred option between the two, considering the cost, time, convenience, and compromises of both options.
