How bad must Darwin Thompson be in practice

that he can't get on the field in games? Our rushing attack sucks. Shady is a constant fumble threat, the Williams brothers aren't lighting it up yet Darwin doesn't get a chance. The only thing I can think of is he's struggling at picking up pass protection on the blitz and are scared he'll get Mahomes killed. Every week we're struggling to produce in the run game hoping one of the backs shows something and it doesn't happen, while an explosive guy with potential sits on the bench.

To me, his ceiling is probably a DAT-level gadget player.
Not fair at all. He's gotten 5 carries on specific run plays where they could zero in on him. Most RB's get a full series...

1) I disagree with your assessment that they were "specific run plays."
2) If you were right, that would just indicate that he can't pass block worth a damn, which is another reason he can't get on the field.
3) Even the eye test suggests he's just not ready. He just tries to out-sprint people to the sideline rather than looking for holes, which doesn't work in the NFL unless you're REALLY fast.

Could be he's not seeing the holes. Could be a playbook issue. It's usually a pass blocking issue.

But if he could play, Reid would play him. See Kareem Hunt.
The only reason Kareem Hunt was our starter in 2017 is because of Spencer Ware's injury in the preseason.

Apparently Carlos Hyde was the best back we had going into the season and we traded him away. Im not completely sold on their evaluation of RBs.
I see no reason not to give him a try, if we put him in on running plays he doesnt have to pass block. At least give him a few of those?

And that's just a kick in the nuts no matter how you look at it.

I think it sucks. Look at the backs we've had the last few years. They had Hunt and he didn't get to play until Ware was injured. Other than Hunt the best backs they brought in were average at best.

Kareem only got that from injuries. He would have never got that playing time without it at the start.

I will say it has to be pass blocking or playbook knowledge. I wish a reporter would ask. Also the dude is solid as a rock. It would play in his favor as waiting for openings is not a strength of the oline.
