So I would expect this move to cascade down the system.

Khalil Lee probably gets the bump to Omaha.

Brewer Hicklen probably takes his place at Northwest Arkansas (toolsy OF who has an .818 OPS at Wilmington, which is IMPRESSIVE for that park/league).

Time for Kyle Zimmer to come back up.

These are his stats over the last 28

7 Games/11.2 IP/7 Hits/3 ER/0 HR/5 BBs/8 SOs/
1.059 WHIP

He's been even better this month

3 Games/4.2 IP/0 ER/1 Hit/2 BB/4 SOs/0.643 WHIP

He's actually been good since May, but he still doesn't get the call up. Gets passed on every call up, so the trash can continue to get lit up, because DM thinks he can get something of value from the trash heap. Dayton must think it's like picking up aluminum pop cans, 1 isn't going to get you much, but if you have a shit ton of cans you'll get some decent money. Unfortunately, you can't bunch together a bunch of players with little value, so you can get a better player.

After July 31 Iíd like to see Zimmer, Staumont and Lovelady come up, with Zimmer and/or Staumont being used as openers

Dozier has been poopy since returning 6/21. Heís backsliding into his old ways: high Ks with low power. In the 70PA since, his K rate has jumped from 19% to 33%. And he has 2hr 3 doubles in that time.

Letís hope he reverts back to earlier form.

From David Lesky's Friday Notes:

Quote:
I hope the All-Star break was all that Hunter Dozier needed to get back to doing what he was doing before he got hurt. Heís hit just .190/.271/.365 since his return in mid-June with two home runs. The plus side is that heís still hitting the snot out of the ball. His average exit velocity since his return is 92.9 MPH, which is quite good. His hard hit rate is above 50 percent in that time and on balls heís hit 100 MPH or harder, heís 8 for 14 (.571) while the league average is .629. Now thatís not really that far off in that small of a sample, just one hit, but still, itís a continued trend from earlier this season when he was destroying balls. But even so, the issue isnít really bad luck. Itís that heís chasing way more pitches now than he did before he was injured. His selectiveness was a big reason why I saw him as a breakout candidate who would stick. Before the injury, he was swinging at 27 percent of pitches outside the strike zone. Since heís been back, that number is up a good amount to 34.1 percent. Heís also swinging at more pitches inside the zone since heís been back, which isnít always a good thing. It could be that heís forced to because heís swung at two bad pitches early in the count to get him to a spot where he canít take a strike, even if itís not the one to drive. And finally, heís swung and missed on 13.7 percent of pitches since his return, which is way up from 8.3 percent before. Add it all up and you can see why heís struggling. Hopefully these last four days have given him a chance to reset and heíll come back the Dozier we saw before the injury.

Well, he tweeted out the link to his notes column at 10:50 a.m., while your post is marked 11:52 a.m., so if there's any plagiarizing going on ...

One more interesting Lesky musing:

Quote:
Iíve talked about this before, but Iíll bring it up again since thereís a lull in the action from the break. Cal Eldred has to go. And even if it turns out he hasnít been as bad an influence as I suspect, the performance of the pitching staff indicates a scapegoat is necessary. Look at literally every pitcher on the roster under the age of 30. Theyíve all regressed in some way. Early in the year when people were calling for Eldredís head, defenders would argue that heís been huge for Scott Barlow. Barlow now has a 6.19 big league ERA and is in AAA because he posted a 12.86 ERA in his final 14 big league appearances before his demotion. No, Iím not saying Eldred magically turned him to crap, but Iím saying the one example people had to fall back on was maybe the worst of them all after looking so good. Iíve heard from reliable sources that Eldred is sour on advanced analytics to the point that he mocks them, and thereís just no place in todayís game for that. And before you get your jokes in about how heís a perfect fit for the Royals, this is an organization that was one of the, if not the, first to have Trackman installed in all their minor league facilities. They may not always listen to the analytics team, but they at least have invested in them. So I guess this is my every other month reminder that Eldred has got to go and the sooner the better.

The Royals have designated outfielder Terrance Gore for assignment to make room for outfielder Bubba Starling.
