The first game between the two is in November, which is right around when he is scheduled to return.
If he does return in time, I would have to think he’ll be a step slow and not in game shape at the very least. Having Tyreek, Mecole, and Watkins as the deep threats that he faces in his first or second game back is a tall task. Who would’ve thought at the end of last season that the Chiefs would have the better situation at safety right now?

I will never shed a tear for any Charger injury. They are so over-hyped, now they have a built-in excuse as to why their season will tank again while we win our 4th straight Division title.

Little known fact:
The 1969-70 Chiefs defense never had a player miss a game. I’d like to see a repeat of that this season.

The announced time frame for his return strongly suggests this is a “jones” injury. Anytime a medical condition with a name, it’s a bad sign. Tommy John surgery?
If it the break were somewhere else, good blood flow would increase healing and decrease the time for return. This time frame is one of the longest for this type of injury, which suggests it is in an area with poor blood flow and thus greater healing time. Greater healing time is bad because the longer the healing, the greater the chances of a complication. I do not wish injuries on anyone (although I made an exception for Elway because he was such an arrogant SOB) and James is no exception. That said, this injury really makes it unlikely for LA to make a good start to the season. They generally don’t but they will have a harder time now. James should be good by late season and playoffs, which is good. |

We wouldn’t feel good about this if it was one of our players.

On the list of Chargers injuries I'd wish to avoid, James is a far #2 to Rivers.
What has tended to happen to the Chargers, over the years, is having one position crippled to the point where they're resorting to a 6th or 7th option. It's happened to C, WR, OLB, OT, etc.. While they've avoided that problem the last couple of years, their Kickers have sucked, (how ****in' hard is it to make a FG when that's your only job?) . The Chargers DB group is fairly deep for now so they should survive. I look at James as a luxury assassin that they'll definitely miss. I hope he comes back the same as he was. |

Their LB Corp was decimated by the end of last year. NE destroyed them by exploiting that.

Derwin James has a foot injury, and will have surgery within a week.
Eric Berry has a foot injury (Haglunds), doesn't have surgery, and lets it linger for years. |
