watch, he will make some spectacular 50 yard TD throw in like, the 4thQ of game 3, and fans will be yelling loudly for him to start. Bet on it.

Thanks for following up by the way. Really appreciate it.
I don't have anything to follow up. The only thing I'm saying is that Daniel is not a highly touted player and that he has next to no experience in the league. Although I might add to that that his diminutive height is something that leads to problems more often then hot.

I have no idea what anybody else is saying to you, or what kind of argument you're currently involved in with them. All I'm saying is that I'm concerned about the backup quarterback position because we don't have what I consider to be any kind of quality experience there.

This is not a statement that Daniel sucks. This is not a statement that either he or Bray is a waste of space. It's only a statement that, at least at this point, our backups (working on the I think safe assumption that Stanzi is released...) consist of two undrafted players with next to no live-fire NFL experience.

I think it's fair to call that a concern, particularly with a starter who's missed as many games as Alex Smith has.

I am not saying that Daniel can't play. I am saying that Daniel has not demonstrated that he can play. Regardless of why, regardless of how much coaches or GMs might like him, the reality is that he just hasn't played. And until he does, and until he shows he's a capable backup, it's going to be a concern.

I'm not assuming that he can't. I'm also not assuming that he can. Until he shows what he can do one way or the other, the simple fact is that I don't know. Hence the concern.

Legitimate concern. Yes.

Well, Alex Smith has been awesome in training camp, so I guess he's going to be awesome during the season right?

I hope the kid gets a chance next year, though.

He posed for a pic with my kid at camp (he offered) and that sure would be a cool pic if he ends up the starter in a year or two.

I wouldn't use the term "awesome"...I'd say he has been pretty good (better than I expected) but let's not get that expectation bar set too high just yet.

For the record, I've never stated that I wasn't concerned with Daniel. What I disputed was the Bray should be the #2 QB and that Daniel should be discarded.

On the roster as it stands now, I think Bray should be kept #3 as long as humanly possible. You won't be able to sneak him onto the practice squad, so that's out, but I would put as much fear for his future job security into his head as humanly possible. Make him understand that he has to work his ass off to earn any opportunity that he may get.

I'm not sure how successfully you can do that, though, knowing that he'd probably be gone in 2 seconds if he ever hit the waiver wire...

I also hope he looks amazing in the preseason. But there's no way I'd ever give him the #2 job in 2013.
