Electronics What brand does everybody use for UPS nowadays?

I've used APC for years and always really liked them until recently. I bought an 850VA UPS in August and one day in November, it just died. One long continuous beep and no power running through it. RMA'd it and the replacement just did the exact same thing. I'm ready to switch brands.

Tripp Lite especially for surge protection I trust nothing else.

Also to completely fry 2 upc's is very unusual. Thats very unusual I wonder if your energy supplier had some really bad spikes. Did any other surge protectors fry?

Nope. Including the 850VA APC (identical model to the failed one) in my office.

I bought 2. I have one in my office and one powering my internet connection stuff at the entrance to the house.

The one for the internet stuff fried in November and I RMA'd it. The replacement did the same.

Reading reviews on Amazon, it appears to be a common occurrence with their home UPS line.

I think I'm going to go for a tower this time and get more power too.

It's probably worth noting that a much older (and more reliable IMO) 550VA APC UPS, plugged into the same outlet, did not fail. I have it powering a mini-server that has some media functions and it is just fine.

Yep Id say time to move away from APC. Tripp Lite with all my audio and musical gear. I have the tripp lite 810 amp battery backup my home home computer. Before I used one of those old Belkin flat block upc it was ok.

Tripp Lite would be my first choice.

We have used some CyberPowers at my work and I was not particularly impressed with them.

I still use APC but I've heard good things about Tripp Lite. Cyberpower may be a good alternative as well.

I have two APC's that are 10 years old or more. I've replaced batteries in them a couple of times but they just work.

I've had 2 out of 3 new ones fail within a year. Just crazy.

So having worked in tech support some years ago, I have to say this is interesting. Probably not a good sign.

I'm chatting with a tech, asked him to lookup my old RMA case number. He asked if I was "having the same issue".

I said "yes, with the replacement unit. Exact same issue."

His response?

"Let me get you an RMA number."

Yeah, he was ready for me. I'm guessing it's a WELL known issue.

And yeah, they're shipping me another one overnight, for free.

Won't do me any good though if it blows up in 3 months.
