Chiefs Offseason Planet Evaluation: Chris Conley

Setting aside the horror of a slow motion video of an achilles popping, how did Chris Conley do this year?

Chris played in 5 games this year, with 5 starts. He had 175 yards in receptions this year at 15.9 yards per catch. He neither scored nor fumbled.

He also returned 1 kickoff for 8 yards, and we all know how that went.

Pros: Great size and athleticism. Good hands. Reasonably durable. Good blocker. Team player.

Cons: Not particularly fast or explosive.

I'd like to see what he's got with a QB with some nuts. We'll know more about ol' Chris by this time next year, I think.

My feelings aswell, intrigued enough by conley, he was good for a 15-20 yard sideline grab here and there

It will be interesting if Conley flourishes more with Mahomes under centre. With an offense with Kelce and Hill- Conley should consistently be the beneficiary of less attention and a weaker matchup. Assuming he comes back 100%, his athleticism and size should give defenses issues but he never really seemed to click with Alex Smith.

It's interesting that he ran a 4.35 40 time but generally is not considered fast. I can't argue because we haven't really seen any explosive plays from Conley in his career thus far.

Damn, a 4.35? That had to be hand-timed at a pro day, right?

True 4.35 speed in pads with his height and vertical would be ****ing unstoppable. As it is, the dude has never been a burner and has racked up basically no YAC.

More playing time in 2018

Conley was a very good 3rd or 4th option before being injured in Week 5. We was a very solid possession receiver in this offense and I'd expect a "Breakout Year" for him in 2018, especially since he's in a Contract Year.

The offense took a notable step back after his injury. Conley needs to be healthy and available in 2018 or his spot will be taken by Kemp or Chesson.

Funny every one was bitching about peters last year and they all glossed over the fact Conley was talking shit to chiefs fans right before he got hurt on twitter.

If Conley is fully recovered from injury, I think Mahomes will target Conley more than Alex did because Mahomes has better field vision and will throw to Conley's back shoulder because of the confidence in his arm strength and accuracy.
