I'd like to see it go this way.
Craig in RF. Get him time out there and let him develop out there. Move Freese to first and go after Longoria next offseason. |

I like moving Freese to first as well. He's not that great defensively at third.

Furcal, Descalso, Longoria, Freese would make a pretty solid infield.

From Bernies column:
How much more money will Pujols really make in LA, anyway? Dr.Patrick Rishe, associate professor of economics at Webster University, points to the tax rates and cost of living differences between St. Louis and Southern California. Keep in mind that Pujols was offered $21 million a year by the Cardinals. The Angels gave him $25 million a year. According to Rishe, "One would have to earn $33.1 million living in Los Angeles to account for the cost-of-living discrepancies." And that's before the tax differential. This was Rishe's summation at Forbes.com: "In the end, the Angels offered Albert more gross income. But given the higher cost of living and higher taxes in CA compared to MO, was the Angels' offer actually more lucrative than the Cardinals? I don't think so." Soooooooooo, Pujols will make less money in salary in LA than St. Louis due to COL differences but left anyway?

Of course cost of living doesn't effect the agent's cut...

You sound like a Yankees fan. Hell worse, you sound like a Toronto Maple Leafs fan. "Well why don't we just go get Sidney Crosby...we're the Maple Leafs..." Evan Longoria has 5 years left on a contract that pays him something like $40 million. He's unquestionably the single most valuable trade chip in the league. He's a young superstar that is essentially being paid 1/3 of his value. If you want him, you're going to give up the top 4 prospects in your system for him. Hell, even that might not be enough. If you want to discuss David Wright, you might be onto something. But c'mon, be sensible here - Longoria's not going anywhere for a very long time.

I think your best bet would move Holliday to first and go get an outfielder.

Pujols comments today are pissing me off. He made it sound like the Cardinals wern going to be there for him after his playing days. He would be an icon. Write his own ticket.
NOt about the money? Then just WTF was it about? Why are you in LA?

The team that was willing to offer him a percentage of the franchise, had it been within MLB rules, wasn't showing him enough commitment.
Is he a complete sociopath?

It makes no sense to me. It has to be about the money but according to people who know these things, if you adjust for the cost of living, it wasn't that much more money. It's such a needlessly painful situation. What a waste.
