Thoughts the day after

Went to bed embarrassed and mad. Woke up fine.

We've lost so infrequently over the past couple years that I think we've forgotten how to do it. And how to cope with it as fans.

That defensive performance was about as pathetic as I can ever remember. Literally no saving grace on that front. And that's concerning. But we can acknowledge that these two matchups were particularly bad for this team and we've seen Spags' defenses look lost in the past only to make adjustments and find a way to improve to semi-respectable.

The reality is we played a NUMBER of close games like this last year and each and every time the ball bounced our way. Now, a lot of that is because we have Mahomes who has papered over endless deficiencies for the last few years, but even as a recently as last week, if Chubb doesn't fumble, do we win that game? What is the narrative like then?

Clyde looks bad. Like, even below the status of a normal JAG running back. But I don't think you can fault Andy for running the ball in that situation. It's not like the guy has a LeSean McCoy recent history of fumbling for you (or at all). It happened. It sucks.

Anyway, guys, this is no different from prior seasons. We can beat any team. We have Mahomes and 99% of the time Clyde isn't fumbling there, Butker kicks a FG, we end up winning the game, and we're all doing cartwheels and looking forward to the Chargers. It didn't happen here, but that doesn't make us materially worse as a football team.

This team ex-Mahomes has been soft. Hopefully this toughens us up. We'll be fine.

Matter of fact, it's the complete opposite. The worry here is that we'd score TOO FAST.

Again, we only needed 30 seconds or so to score a TD. Not a FG. A TD. The FG was a given.

35-ish yards to go.....1.5min....3 TO's.

The Chiefs can score in one freaking play.

THERE WAS TOO MUCH TIME. Run it there, kill clock and a Ravens TO, pick up the 1st on 3rd down and continue driving the ball in 100% control of the clock.

The only way they score too fast is if they throw it to the end zone. Outside of that any thing else they can go down and burn the clock from anywhere on the field.

And I think what you are missing is if they complete the 3rd and 4, you think they are going to keep trying to get yards? I don’t. We’ve seen this before and they would have run one or two more runs for five yards at best. Still a long field goal.

Agreed.

Early season games are almost pointless. It's like regular season NBA.

This is Chiefs football. The only part of the season that's gonna matter is the post season.

And if you don't think this is a top 7 AFC team then you're either a silly bitch or you aren't a Chiefs fan.

Fix it by the playoffs so Mahomes can do his thing when it counts.

If CEH doesn't fumble it wouldn't have mattered. 2nd and 3 is the perfect place to run in this situation. Better than 3rd and 3. Better than 1st and 10. Better than 2nd and 10. I think ive said all i can say on this topic. And yes, i think Mahomes could get 3 yards on 3rd down.

Patrick honestly needs to start going rogue on Andy in these situations. Andy has proven he cannot be trusted to manage late game scenarios.

No one was expecting a fumble but it isn’t hindsight to say keep throwing because plenty of people where saying it prior. That run play was 50/50 at best for a first down before it was even ran because CEH sucks. A pass play was all but a guaranteed first down the way they had no answer for our short passing game and you can still run the clock then.
Especially seeing how the Ravens stacked the line on that play, I was hoping they wouldn't run the ball, but hell. Hindsight.

Woke up and I'm already over it.

Chiefs lost a game, making them 1-1. No undefeated season. Big deal.

KC lost a few games in every season Mahomes has been the starter. And still went to the AFCCG in each of his first three seasons as the starter. No real reason to believe this season won't be the same. Guess we'll have to live with that. Woe is us.

It reminds a bit of the first Raiders game last season. The Chiefs came out and didn't play as well as they could have, Spags' game-plan didn't work out well, a couple very questionable ref calls, and so on, and the result was KC dropped that game.

And then KC went to the SB.

So I'm not worried. They'll bounce back.

P.S. Calling for a run there was the right call. It was just unfortunate that CEH fumbled the ball, though he didn't exactly get great blocking in front of him there. Someone missed their assignment for Oweh to get that kind of penetration. crazy at it seems, the other team gets paid to play as well.

Yup. It's not how you start, it's how you finish.

Way too early to be doing Super Bowl matchups.

We need to take care of the Chargers and go from there.

Right when we got in field goal range so easily, I said the only thing the Ravens can hope for is a turnover or a missed field goal. Then the very next play...

It was basically the 2019 Titans game all over again.

Control it all the way thru, then piss it away.

When you had the ball in the late 3rd up 11, go score and none of this matters.

I'm upset with how horrendous our defense has been. That should have been an easy game. Clyde losing his mojo is also concerning. IDK, but it seems no RB in that draft class is all that great.
