QB situation #25 - Mahomes is boom or bust

USA Today ranks the Chiefs' QB situation as #25, partially due to the backup situation but also Mahomes being "boom or bust".

Quote:
We’re high on Patrick Mahomes after seeing him play in Week 17 last season, but he’s going to be a boom-or-bust guy for the next few years and the Chiefs do not have a solid backup if he gets hurt. No, Chad Henne does not count as a solid backup.
I expect he'll have a few early wins then hit a wall in his first season while he learns how to adjust to NFL-speed defenses. 7-9.

Chad Henne is not a good backup QB, but they say Geno Smith is an underrated backup as they score the Chargers as the seventh best QB situation? Shit article posted on a shit website.

Boom or bust is a joke of an analogy. The easy way out. Mahomes is not boom or bust. Bust means he can't be a starter and there is just no way anyone really thinks that based on his talent level. He above average talent.

I guess beating a top 5 defense on the road w/ 2nd and 3rd stringers to work with means nothing.

its hard to put a number on this

he is a work in progress...by everyone's account

if he reaches his potential....it could send the chiefs into the upper echelon of teams for years

if he busts, well...we are the chiefs still for the next 5+ years

its probably going to take 2-3 years to really know what we have here.....so how to you put some number on it for next year?

I wouldnt put it as low as 25 but you HAVE to give some downside to the tremendous risks involved ......I'd say in the middle somehwhere with a massive upside potential but also a disastrous downside if it doesnt pan out.

And that's just one game.

But the thing is if Mahomes is all the talent that so many pretend that he is, how could he fail when he has been put in such perfect conditions: Andy Reid as a supposedly QB guru, a year of learning behind Smith who honestly is probably the perfect mentor for a gunslinger like Mahomes, an OK Oline and a ton of weapons everywhere.

I guess the Oline could be his downfall if ever they were to get injuries or just play poorly.

Uhoh... almost forgot they had nothing to play for EXCEPT... end the winning streak we currently have on your team... at home... against a rookie... we started NOBODY, you had your shitastick defense out there. Don’t worry, there’s a reminder coming this season. Your coach will be fired by mid season! The Mange will be all talk about who’s the new coach gonna be and who are they gonna pick in the top 5 again, lmao!

Cleveland at 22?

The Jets at 20?

They claim they're pumping the brakes on the Jimmy Garrapolo hype, but they're still overrating the hell out of him at 16.

Jesus, they even put Trubisky over Mahomes? Is it all because of Chad ****ing Henne?

Most backup QBs are the same. Derek Anderson = Chad Henne = Matt Moore = Booger Daniel = Josh McCown. You don't get a leg up over anyone else unless you have a guy like Nick Foles.

Dumb list. But I see they DID put Denver at dead last

That list is all kinds of reeruned.

How is Philly #2? Rodgers is better than Wentz but Wentz/Foles is better than Rodgers/Kizer.

Boom or bust? ****ing reeruned. Lazy journalism.

Pat’s ceiling is VERY high and he has already shown flashes he can play in the NFL at a high level. There is no way whatsoever he will be a ‘bust’. At worst, his floor is an average starting QB in this league.
