I think that this could be true. Either he is not willing to take a backup role or he wanted to play in Miami. I can see the appeal in Miami if you’re young and have money.

If they were willing to agree at $4.4 million or whatever that tender guaranteed (which was effectively locked in when they put the tender on him) then they would've been willing to match to the total max value of around $5 million. A few hundred thousand doesn't mean anything on the cap really.

So I'm guessing that Ingram approached them with the number he had, it was larger than the number they wanted to pay and they knew he'd take that over the tender figure. So they slapped the tender on him just to recover the draft pick they used to acquire him to begin with.

There's gotta be another plan in place. There's just no way they intend to run with this DE group.

Overthecap.com has the Melvin Ingram contract and they agree with most things reported above, but they say the cap will be $3.96M and the only part that is guaranteed will be the $1.65M bonus.

Chiefs used the UFA tag on Melvin Ingram which was a 10% increase from Melvin Ingram's $4M contract so $4.4M. If Melvin signed that contract with the Chiefs, would the $4.4M have been guaranteed?

Dolphins have Emmanuel Ogbah and Jaelen Phillips playing at DE so he might get more playing time with Miami.

Since the money was close to the same, just trying to figure out why Miami.

Melvin may have been slightly pissed that the Chiefs gave his #24 jersey away to Skyy Moore and maybe thought Chiefs should have negotiated with him rather than use the UFA tag.

Because from my chair, a 6th for Ingram was a complete no-brainer. And I'd do it again.
