If Mahomes is healthy enough that you trust he can come in if Moore gets injured or plays like crap then he should be the starter. Why is this concept so hard to understand? If he's healthy enough to play, he plays. He is the starting QB. He is the team leader. He is, by far, the most talented QB on this team. He is the most talented QB in the NFL. You don't sit that kind of player if he is able to play.

Is he more likely to get hurt this week than he would be next week? It sounds like the answer is a definite yes, though the difference may be slight.

Do we need him to beat the Titans? Seems unlikely, but out of caution you could have him available as a backup.

That's about all it comes down to for me. Yes, he CAN play. I don't think there's much of a doubt about that. But if we can protect him a bit and make sure he's in GREAT shape rather than just OK shape, that seems like a win to me.

If he’s able to be the backup, start him.

If he’s the backup at any slip up on offense everyone will be looking for him to come in. No reason for that, just start him or don’t dress him

The risk of reinjury for that particularly injury decreases as time goes on. It's obviously on a curve, so the difference from Week 1 to Week 2 is huge, the difference between Week 2 to Week 3 is substantial, and the differences become more and more slight after that. Just making numbers up to illustrate the point, the chances of reinjury might go something like 80%, 40%, 20%, 10%, 5%, 2.5%, 1.25%, 0.75%, etc. It will likely never be 100% without surgery, and it's fairly likely he'll go that route in the offseason.

There are lots of videos about it on the interwebs if you'd like to dig around. The gist is that you can think of those tendons like a rubber band that got stretched out way too far. Give it enough time, and it'll shrink back down to pretty close to the size it's supposed to be, but it takes a while, and it'll never be quite the same as it once was.

Thank you for explaining it... I have no patience. The quote you produced yesterday should have been good enough for everyone to follow. I'm getting the feeling that those who don't see the common sense of the matter, don't want to.

Don't get me wrong, I'm generally fine if the team decides to start him, and I do admit that it would be somewhat unusual to have him active but not starting. I just don't think that it's this completely wild idea that isn't worth consideration.

I also think it's important to point out that the questions of "Can he effectively play the game?" and "Is he likely to be reinjured if he takes a hit in the knee?" are completely separate in this case. Yes, he'll be able to move and throw pretty normally. It's purely a matter of risk mitigation.

You ignore how there's 2 1/2 full games of film on Moore now, and sooner or later, Defenses are going to pick up on his tendencies and pick him apart.

If he's healthy, he plays. No questions asked.

Exactly, what is the best you can hope for in a backup? He comes in for 2-3 games and manages to keep you afloat. He went 2-1 in his three games. Thats awesome, thank you Matt.

Titans are a decent team that we have had all kinds of trouble with in the past. We need to beat them, period. Our best chance of doing that is with Patrick. By all accounts he is ready to go, you play him!

GO CHIEFS!!

That’s what I thought, I just meant more specifically to this case if it had been said and I’d missed it.

If they want to hold him out post bye, it’s whatever to me. I get the caution

But at some point, you’ve gotta win games and he gives you the best chance. The goal is to win the super bowl and with the 1 seed now seemingly back in play, it is what it is.

Again I understand big picture and all, but if we or they are that afraid of reinjury and it’s that common or could be that much of a possibility, just have surgery and shut him down until next year.

I’m guessing they’re not goin on a whim here thoigh

I agree. While we all want PMII in the game, how does he really feel? Just because he's "medically cleared" doesn't give me a warm and fuzzy. I don't have a whole lot of faith in our medical staff right now.

My guess is that they're just waiting to see if it swells or flares up by Sunday. If it doesn't after a week of full practice and he feels good and confident, he'll suit up and start.

This completely.

The Raiders are in our rear view mirror right on our bumper. We can't be thinking we have a real big cushion between us and them plus they have an easier remaining schedule. If we stumbled against Tennessee by trying to play it too safe, that would be catastrophic.

I think Mahomes should start without a doubt even if he's 90-95% healthy.
